Please take the time to sign petition (below) if you think the Irish Govt (you) should not pay 700 mil euro to Unsecured Bondholders tomorrow.
I wrote a message to the effect that when I place a bet and lose it's my responsibility and my loss. I don't expect, or get, a bailout. The Unsecured Bondholders placed a bet and lost ....
The original bondholders sold them at a knockdown price to a third party because they were sure they were going to get burned, the cynic in me would like to know the identity of the new bondholders and why they took such a spectacular risk.Did they know something, were they tipped off, i have my suspicions.

Cosying up to Europe so they might right down our debts later on, might work but it might not either though. 750 million is a lot of money to spend to be perceived as 'honourable'.

Funny how people see things so differently. I would have thought , especially given the scale of debt incurred , that E 700,000,000 was a trifling sum for the country to barter its reputation . The Irish people collectively have got themselves into a ferocious bind and must try to avoid blubbering and hysteria. Ireland inc. needs its people to work harder and smarter , it needs friends , it needs the world economy to stabilise and, possibly most of all, it needs luck.

There is merit in what you say but the point is the original bondholders bailed out because they considered bonds from a bust bank were worthless and they managed to off load them, the question now is who bought these seemingly worthless bonds and who tipped them the wink. A certain prominent racehorse owner made a huge killing when Bertie the then finance minister told him the punt was going to be devalued, this could be similar.
