My own preference would be Mitchell but it appears to have dwindled to a match .
Let's be honest -there should be only one winner in this .
Look at some of Michael D's portfolio
- Established Irish Film Board ( possibly 1000s of jobs)
-Set up TG4 ( hundreds of jobs)
-Supported a network of venues and theatres ( more jobs)
-Long time campaigner for Women's rights and Disability issues
-Campaigned against both Iraq wars
-International election observer
-Recipient of Sean McBride peace prize
-Chairman of Galway Utd. F C
-published poet ( I've read some -not bad at all )
-11 years a Hot Press columnist
-University lecturer
-Long parliamentary service as T D

Even if you don't agree with all his stances ( as I don't )-one has to admit he's a man of substance, ideas and integrity and real public service achievement.
He simply dwarfs the four week wonder from the venal and murky world of Fianna Fail.

The election of Gallagher would be an utter  travesty.

Alan Sweetman slated MDH in the Racing Post a while back and Higgins responded with a letter in the same paper. Higgins is a very intelligent man, and well suited to the ambassador to all nations role that the Presidency effectively is. Plenty of charm, a poet, gaeilge breá líofa etc.

The sooner this nonsense is over and the whole country can go back to forgetting about the Presidency the better. It is the fourth most important vote taking place tomorrow imo.

He voted for a tax amnesty for the rich.

Nothing more than a champagne socialist in receipt of three differing
PS benefit streams.

PS TG4 is funded by public money, not his own twine.

I do however, think & hope he wins - purely because I'd weep for the future of this country if a FF 'Manchurian Candidate' gets the money...

* "PS" above means Public Sector in the first instance, post-script in the second.
