Now i know its only a bit of a 4 race end of season junket " The Grand Slam of Golf " but  once again Rory got into a position of winning and didn t go through with it closing with +4 75 ....... regardless of anyones opinion of him no one doubts the talent of the guy and he s won a major  but he s heading into his fourth season on tour and for a guy of his talents he has i think serious problems closing a tournament out when he gets into winning positions ...... Even if you look at the tournaments he s won in Dubai and the US Open he went off to the front and didn t get caught ...... he s yet to win in the heat of battle on the back nine of a sunday when its tight .......... In horse racing terms you might say when he comes off the bridle there isn t too much there Sad...... I love to see the stats from a punting point of view how many times in running he has traded less than 2/1 and got beat ........
He s off for a little break now to watch a bit of Tennis LoveLoveLoveLove.......and will be back for the HSBC Champions in Shanghai . a course he always plays well in and i have no doubt when the time comes i ll get sucked in again and back him LaughLaughLaugh

Ernie Els used to say that this was bit of the season was when he used to 'get the wheelbarrow out.'

it sure is neil ... i believe their trip to China last week for the seven courses in seven days challenge got himself and westwood a million dollars each

Jaysus, that'll pay for a few more horses for Lee so, I don't begrudge em it I supose, worth what someone is willing to pay I suppose.

Do you think maybe that while McIlroy's self assured nature is also one of his biggest strengths, that maybe it is a slight weakness as well in that a little introspection into the mechanics of his own game, particularly putting wouldn't go amiss.

He needs to change something dont know what. He gets into the mix so many times and does not get across the line. Something missing. His talent is not doubted. He is probably the most talented golfer out there at the  moment but he is not converting that into the wins that he should. However in saying that there's so many good golfers around maybe we are going into a period where nobody dominates the game.

In fairness to him his putting has improved through the summer .....he just needs to get that knack of winning ..... its what defined the careers of greats like Nicklas and Woods ......
You just really want him to fulfil his potential ....I m not the biggest soccer fan in the world but i d turn on the telly and watch it if Messi was playing ...... McIlroy s a bit like that in golf , even if you were not that into it you could watch McIlroy

if it is mental rather than mechanical wouldn't that be worse?

It was only a 36 hole sprint -fortotten about after tomorrow.
I think that Darren Clarke cuts quite a strange figure -one expects better than weekly crud from an Open Champion.

Dinglemick, Kelly is having a debate with an aussie guy on the golf forum on this very thing:

How are his putting stats?  This aspect of his game looks very average to me.  Hrd to see how he can meet the current expectation levels with his putting as is.

I think Clarke's mentality was summed up in his statement after Round 1

"It was absolute crap and I didn’t come all the way here to play that bad, so obviously I’m disappointed
I’ve just been struggling with my swing, so if you mix that with putting equally as bad that usually doesn’t add up to a good score.
I’ll try to find the answer in the bottom of a glass this evening and see how that works.
I have not hit the ball any good really since The Open. I’ve been trying to change things, which is probably foolish, but I’m trying to get a little bit better.
After 77 I should probably stay out a little later than planned because I probably couldn’t do any worse tomorrow, but we’ll see.

Just seen something on twitter that has my eyes popping out ....

...As we all probably know McIlroy left Chubby Chandlers ISM management company during the week to join Irish Management company Horizon sports management who already look after G Mac and Ross Fisher ....... great coup for the owner Conor Ridge ....very hard working guy and good luck to him ......

I have now just seen on Twitter that Peter Allis has tweeted that McIlroy is leaving Horizon to join " super agent " to soccer stars Kia Joorabchain according to Joorabchain himself ......
Lee Westwood has also tweeted on it " Bizarre Decision "

Please tell me this is bull****
