Better if soccer was properly organised from scratch on a 32 county basis . Neither organising body South or North has grounds for objection , jobs for the boys and the blazers .
Time to get everybody singing from the same hymn sheet , instead of wasting time effort and money poaching or preventing poaching .
And if they did get things organised properly there might be more people interested in watching the product .
North is a complete shambles , has been for a long time and there is little light at the end of the tunnel . Dont think it is much better down south , but not familiar with that .
The number of clubs struggling financially is huge , present set-ups will not change that , time for radical action . At least to give it a shot .
How is there jobs for the boys if there is one association instead of two? Straight away there is only half the number of places for clubs in Europe. Who do you think would vote for that?

Good idea but will never happen because the FAI , like most Irish institutions is backward and short sighted. You only have to look at the state of players being produced in ireland and the type of football played domestically to see that the FAI have no idea on how to organise the grassroots level of the game...

You can park the 32 thing Kelly, we have long given up the rights to the North, you lads are on your own ;)
Roll on tomorrow and hopefully the Republic will make the playoffs

have to agree with rocket ,kelly, cant see it happening now or in the near future ......the north have very little to offer in terms of players or grounds ...the poaching of players from the north is a disgrace imo and should be stopped right away....

The main benefit to soccer on this island would be domestically , not necessarily internationally . Cannot see even an All Ireland national team being able to aspire to greatness ever ( again ) , compared with N Irelands 1958 and 1982 escapades and Republics 1990's feats .
But on the domestic front if the soccer clubs were organised more on county or province basis there might be more scope for development . No need for a lot of the clubs which struggle along at the moment , confined to the cities and bigger towns . Not going anywhere as far as I can see , and all the kids just aspire to getting away to play on the other side of a piece of water .
When I was younger I went to international matches in Belfast , only one of 58,000 or so dangerously packed into Windsor Park on several occasions . But we were watching some of the best players in the world then , now Windsor ( if full ) holds only 15,000 , and those figures tell it all . Same pitch , same location , quarter of the crowd . And about a quarter of the performance .
It is slightly better in the South according to dispatches , but no guarantee that will continue , and its cyclical anyway .

Over the past say twenty years, I can't name any players from the north who would have made the starting eleven for the Republic on a regular basis?
Fair enough point Kelly, but I think the first thing that the IFA should do/NI assembly, is build a new stadium, as very few from the catholic community will ever even attempt to follow NI while the symbol of secterianism through the years, Windsor Park, is being used as the home venue for NI fixtures. And if they haven't the money as seems the case, move all the home matches to the Brandywell in the meantime.

It is sad to see N.I. soccer in such a state.Kelly quite correctly mentions the great exploits of the 1958 and 1982 teams but surely the golden era was the early seventies. That team had 6 players that would have graced any team and 2 that would have got on a world eleven.George Best and Pat Jennings were the best 2 players in the world in their respective positions and Derek Dougan,Bryan Hamilton,Pat Rice and Martin O`Neill were fabulous players.Their constant drawing of groups with Germany stopped them from qualifying for the big events.

Off the top of my head:
1. Neil Lennon 2. David Healy 3. Johnny Evans
Probably a few others that I can't think of right now

The fact that you lads can name world class players emanating from the North over the years just emphasises the different scenario nowadays . Nobody mentioned Whiteside , who was also a brilliant player .
But the unfortunate fact is that the supply line has vanished , and cant see it being reinstated in current circumstances . The young soccer people ony seem to have eyes on one thing , viz getting to England ( or Scotland as a second ) hoping to get to stratospheric income from being a premier player . Playing and representing your country is only a stepping stone to playing in that sphere where you can get rich in a couple of saesons .
The South at least has the semblance of a semi decent team , but with no "world stars " and probably not a lot of regular premier players . Again a lot of their eyes are looking east for the riches . But again is the production line producing skilful and competitive players at international level , or are they just well organised and hard to score against ? North and South we have always had above average goalkeepers , but hard for them to score . Maybe they should recruit Cluxton !

its a pity because as a team of players they arent THAT bad!! they arent allowed play with any freedom and although they dont get thumped day in day out, when it comes to the crunch, they struggle against the better teams in the games that actually mean something!!
they had decent spells in the game tonight and when they pass the ball about they can actually look like a football team (briefly).
only when the shackles are taken off will they ever fulfil what little potential they actually have!
look at their game away to france for the WC qualifer. ok fair enough france were p!ss poor but they did have some world class players on the pitch and ireland absolutely destroyed them over there!! in the great scheme of things it means absolutely nothing but what it does show is that SOME of the players have more ability than perhaps they are being allowed to show!!
having said that, their midfield of andrews and whealan are dreadful and how keith fahey doesnt get a game ill never know, likewise hunt!!
eitherway, even if we got thru its impossible to see us making any sort of impact in the tourni which is sad really and shows the terrible state that irish football is in at the moment!
absolutely no effort to have an impact on the game at grassroots level and unfortunatly it dosnt look like changing any time soon!
its so simple to instill a philosophy on hw football is supposed to be played, simple rules instilled from a young age that will become second nature to many potentially talented young irish players in the future but instead they are taught and expected to play in a negative way which is seen a the best we can possibly hope for!! what a load of b0llocks, im only thankful braca, spain, arsenal etc... decided that football is the beautiful game and taught their players over decades about how the game should be played and the best way to get to the highest level of the sport!
im not saying ireland could ever be as good as the club and countries named but it is IMPOSSIBLE for ireland to EVER compete against the likes of spain, germany, argintina etc if they do not change the way football is played in this country, IMPOSSIBLE, it will never happen as long as the sport exists which is a great shame and a disgrace! do the FAI not see how this game is supposed to be played? to they not see how winning teams have certain characteristics that weaker nations dont have? surely they dont think that these superior nations are some kind of super human freaks that are born with god given natural ability? of course there will be some that are just more talented naturally but the majority can be attributed to the hard work and practise of the players that have sweat blood trying to perfect their natural ability as well as compliment everything that they have been taught!
its not that difficult to see you know!!
rant over!
