We need a think tank. A serious one. Especially if we do not qualify for the Euros at football. The rugby was the biggest anti climax, we really do need to rearrange our cosmos in the world of sport. However, the boys yesterday tried their hearts out and gambled on getting tries. We threw the kitchen sink at Wales but then ran out of steam. We will have to replace the nucleus of that team and rebuild.
Not much wrong with our rugby team, we do alright there, this Welsh team coming through could be top class and they played very well against us, we missed a few chances yeah but we were beaten by the better team. Have to rebuild obviously now so it will get worse before it gets better.
Even if we qualify for the Euros, doesn't change much really, we are an awful anti-soccer team with not much talent. 10 years since qualifying for a major tournament, probably more. Scraping through in the group ahead of Armenia and into a playoff isn't any great achievement if we avoid defeat against them. Don't see us winning a playoff, hope I'm wrong though. Not sure what we can do to improve the talent though.

i think that if we can overcome armenia , a country i have great respect for ...they produced one of the greatest human beings ever to grace this world of ours ...one g jurdjieff a true master............ we'll have our work cut out to qualify beyond the play offs with the kind of football we are playing .....traps plan is very limited indeed , and untill we move away from it our players will suffer from lack of footballing expression..i belive we have the players to move us to another level ..sadly trap wont even play them.....

The Rugby lads are lucky in that they get the oppertunity to play France and England every spring, it raises interest and if we get a result then bobsyouruncle everything is healthy in the Irish rugby garden. Soccer is different, there is more depth, it is more competitive and small nations have to fight to get to the glamour games at major tournaments. Look at the records of Scotland and wales in international football in recent seasons and we are probably about where we should be. No matter how badly the Irish rugby team can get, they'll always have an england game on the horizon which will rouse interest.

The problem I feel is that we try to be jack of all trades, yet we become master of none. With the limited resources we have as a nation, how can we expect to honestly get decent panels year on year to be competitive?
How do we bring along the next generations to be seriously competitive when we as youngsters try to play so many different sports i.e GAA, Golf, Horse Racing, Football, Rugby etc etc... We have been blessed to have the likes of Robbie Keane, Damien Duff, Brian O'Driscoll, Paul O'Connell in this current era...Who is going to come along and carry the next generation forward? But from what I see, I have to say the future is not that rosey.
Don't get me wrong, I love my country and would support any Irish person at whatever sporting event they participate in, but without the correct infrastructure, I am sorry to say we are going nowhere :(
