Horse racing is the only sport where we are world leaders yet the coverage given is dreadful.The cities may be different but in the country nearly everyone has an interest yet they barely give a racing result.Many years ago before teletext and mobile phones i used to listen to the radio for evening Irish racing results,i used to endure items about a player being fit with the immortal rider "if selected" before the last item came,the racing results.So it was always the case.

There is still no report on their site re: today's Dewhurst.

wildman you are correct ...racing always on the backburner ....its a pity they neglect the one thing we are really good at....its much the same in the cities as the country ....lots of people in the cities love a bet ...they mightn't have the same hands on approach but the trill is still the same....

They didnt report on Brendan Dolan either which is a bigger disgrace because Darts isnt as corrupt as the aul ggs

RTE certainly has questions to answer.But in the present times will anyone question their pre-meditated attempt to destroy the life of the innocent man in Ahascragh.Co.Galway?

rte represents all that is rotten on this little Island.Anyone paying a TV Licence would want to be asking themselves some serious questions..!

If you go by head of population when compared with Britain Aiden O'Brien would qualify as a minor celibrity on our tiny Island, in Britain outside of racing circles Henry Cecil would be a virtual nobody, Henry who?.

I think RTE are pretty decent at giving racing airtime, maybe vubiant the rugby world cup shattering defeat was always going to overshadow everything else making saturday's sports news a mere blib than anything deliberate on RTE's behalf.

I cant agree with the posters who say racing is a minority sport,ye are judging it on attendances alone but in my expierience nearly everybody has an interest in horses,especially in rural areas.
Vubiant i agree entirely with your sentiments and the Newmarket races were all top class.

RTE gives more than its share of coverage to the racing that appeals to the masses,namely National Hunt.When the Cheltenham festival is approaching they do very interesting previews and interviews with trainers ,often small ones and they give insights into what a Cheltenham victory would mean to certain individuals and their families.They did an interview with Tom Foley the year he won with Danoli which was a marvellous effort on their behalf,portraying a rural farmer with a once in a lifetime horse,owned by an ordinary man,trained by another one with help from members of his family.Mr pioneer pin having a winner at Newmarket is hardly riveting news,he's done it many times before.Owned by Tabor,Magnier,Smith,all multi millionaires who have nothing in common with anything Irish.Most Irish people would have no allegiance whatsoever to these people,why should they ?,or for O Brien and his clique either for that matter.Nobody cares about O Brien and his so called achievements,if the truth be told many racegoers as well as the ordinary public would be secretly hoping he never trains a winner anywhere.And his achievements amount to winning a few million prize money each year with about 100 million worth of stock at his disposal,hardly earth shattering stuff.Irish people care very little about flat racing and rightly so,its most certainly the sport of kings over here.The flat scenes main players are a motley bunch.Tabor,Magnier,Smith,O Brien,Weld,Lyons,Murtagh,McDonagh,Heffernan,Bolger,Manning,Harrington,Berry,Supple,some real nice people among that list,i cant wait until one of them have a winner again.

mincer11 -you may have missed the interesting detail that Jim Bolger -one of your arbitrary set of 'nice people' -had one of the Gr.1 winners on Saturday -the bigger of the two The Dewhurst Stakes worth about E210.000 to the winner -a long-standing 2-y-o premium race and a predictor of Classic success .
I don't understand your point about O'Brien having had so much success before that any further additions are hardly worth noticing .
Successful achievement is always worthy and the more so as it accumulates . Are Manchester Utd.'s Premiership wins less meritorious because they have won it so many times previously. ?
Incidentally nice Jim Bolger has now won the Dewhurst four times in about 6 years - a fantastic tally  indeed. The fourth win , far from being of lesser value or attention actually adds lustre to the record.

I would appeal to you to shake off your absurd begrudging attitude to the genius that is Aidan O'Brien -take a fresh look and celebrate Irish success .
