the point isn't that the job should have gone to a more worthy / needy individual but that the job SHOULD NOT have gone to a licensed individual who can financially benefit from her decision. In cases where a steward owns or is associated with a horse he/she will absent themselves from any enquiry concerning their horse.
How can a steward (who is not allowed to bet)be allowed to  adjudicate on a photo finish where they recieve a percentage of the prize money. While I  question neitherWalsh's ability or integrity as a judge surely the turf Club can see the potential threat to Irish horse racings reputation and integrity by having a licenced person acting as a steward. Sure why not let the jockeys call it
Really Miss Walsh should either

(a)relinquish her jockey's agent licence   or
(b) resign as a judge.

NO DEBATE
NO ARGUMENT
NO DELAY

Thought this was a reference to the Big Jemmy gamble today [:(]

Agree - I doubt that the BHA would give Hayley Moore a Stewarding job, that would be a similar situation.  Her father trains, brother is Champion jockey etc. it makes a mockery of the whole system and I'm fairly certain there are far better and more qualified candidates for the job.

Out of interest what qualifications to be a Steward does Miss Walsh possess?

In fairness if they don't want to bring into question the integrity they could start by pulling up some of the non-triers, or as a friend put it to me "they don't pull in all the non-jiggers as they'd never get the second race run!!"

She does not officiate at stewards enquiries but is the judge in a photo finish. All stewards receive appropriate training from the authorities. As i said I have no questions about her ability to perform the task. I have questions about a licenced individual who derives an  income from a race calling the result of that particular race.

Apologies Yummy - I'd like to withdraw my reference to Hayley Moore, my local track often has Smudger Smith as judge and tbh anyone is better than him.

I take your point but don`t accept its the same as a steward.A steward gives an opinion but a judge gives a verifiable result,if there was any wrong doing it would be quickly found out as the photo is shown after the race.Having said that it looks wrong and as such should not be tolerated.
An S.P. compiler that used to hiss was a jockeys agent, not sure whether its still the case, that never bothered the authorities either.

Yummy, you are spot on. As a jockeys agent she has a direct financial interest in the result of a race in which her brother is competing, as she receives a percentage of any prizemoney he might win. As you correctly say stewarde on duty are not allowed to bet-surely there is a major lack of conssistency here. I am sure there are any number of people who could do the job equally as well, or maybe better, who would not have any vested interest in the result, and who could do with the gig more than the multi jobbing Ms. Walsh. However the powers that be are obviously not listening as her dulcet tones were heard in Limerick yesterday.

If she is the judge at Cork today that photo finish is the reason she should not be a judge- EVER. The possibly conflict of interest is there and shouldn't be.

Jennifer was the judge at Naas today. Much handier for her than going all the way to Cork.

Do we really need a judge in this day and age?

The technology does all the work now, so why not let the racecourse commentators take on the responsibility.

I wouldn't want my hard earned invested in a race where Dessie is calling the winner. Laugh

He can't even spot fallers.

Dessie doesn't call the fallers unless he is pretty certain what it is. He got it in the neck on the forums when/if he got it wrong as they lost their hard earned cash. He said if they were risking their hard earned cash they should KNOW the colours too.
He siad this in an interview in the Irish times a number of months ago.

Your financial comments (earnings of 185,000 in the last 5 seasons) may have caused upset I guess............ [:x]

1% of Ruby's winnings (approx):

2010-11     18,953.92
2009-10     36,770.84
2008-09     49,636.17
2007-08     39,471.96
2006-07     40,140.15

Catch, if you take into account her percentage of Ruby's very lucrative endorcements etc. the amount she makes from Ruby would be well in excess of what you have quoted. Why is she so greedy when she has so many extra jobs-RTE,pinhooker etc. Give the job to someone who really needs it.

because she can't get a ride(on a horse) and needs to keep busy.
