Irish Rugby team played soccer to train for World cup Quarter final and get used to the speed and intensity according to today's Indo. Great stuff i'll be up watching as will the rest of the country. What price the cheeky double Irish double this weekend? As both teams seem to be leaving no stone unturned as their quest for glory.

"The Irish team held a training session at the ASB Indoor Sports Centre in Wellington yesterday but it was soccer -- and not Gaelic -- that was played when rugby balls were not in hand"

Report Rocketfingers October 5, 2011 3:31 PM BST
We do it at our club http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXw8PYVlwkI

Did you actually watch that video?

It's not Gaelic Football

Rocketfingers can i ask you what exactly is "The Ultimate Compliment" that you speak of?

This looks like another one of your threads that attempts to goad GAA fans on this forum. The article you quoted from is about how three of the Irish rugby players played GAA when they were in Primary School and excelled at it. So they played soccer in training the other day. Big deal. So what. Who cares.

And db1974 is correct, that link you put up is not Gaelic Football. The next time you search for a youtube video to try and back up one of your points, watch it first so you dont end up looking like a complete mug when it turns out to be something it isnt.

They are training for the rugby world cup quarter final and they see soccer as the optimum sport to reach their pinnacle at. I heard other sports teams choose soccer i.e. English cricket team and the Kerry GAA footballers.
Report kavvie October 5, 2011 8:21 PM BST
thats because it doesnt require much intelligence to play it.they can relax at it

Soccer was played when rugby balls were not in hand.

The way you are portraying it is they are doing 5 a sides for their training.
Report Rocketfingers October 5, 2011 9:49 PM BST
Not portraying anything i just stuck up a link Cool

But think it's the ultimate compliment that they are playing soccer to train for the rugby world cup quarter final !
By the way i would say the gym is big enough to play almost 11 a side, seems a  super gym for super players playing a super sport claiming Happy

Back to your good old backtrackingself Laugh

Rugby is a super game. Soccer is a super game. GAA both hurling and Football are super games. I would imagine Kidney used a soccer ball to spice it up and keep the lads interested, i doubt very much that they are playing soccer in training as a tactic to beat the Welsh.

if soccer was such a super game wouldnt carlos tevez want to play it?!!?..specially when hes getting 250k a week?..

Report workrider October 5, 2011 11:17 PM BST
if its me your asking i'll reply ..i think they have brught a lot of this on themselves signing players on such huge contracts...players been payed far to much money ..its now spirelled out of control.. most player only interested in money and will move from club to club..it has ruined football as we knew it...

He wants to play footbal but............ from the start, in a warmer climate and on the same money, He's a much better player than Dzeko though.

I they straighten out Balotelli, he is far more innately talented than either of them.

Nothing surprising here - soccer is good exercise - also in comparison to Rugby and GAA lot easier to set-up and play. Its also enjoyable to play - did so myself - a Collingwood Cup winners medal no less - and had good times with it. But its primarily a game for kids (up to about 21 max) and women - or perhaps 5-a-side indoor during the off-season in serious sports.

I kind of side with the overall Yank attitude on this one - "like playing it, can stand watching it".
