Commenting on the changes, Turf Club Chief Executive, Denis Egan said “that the main changes were the introduction of a winning distance of a nose and the extension of distances from the current maximum distance of 30 lengths in increments of one length up to 99 lengths. Anything over 99 lengths will be designated as 99 lengths+. Previously anything over 30 lengths was designated as a distance.”
rather than all the blarney about re-branding the distances, maybe the turf club would like to include an extra rule whereby jockeys agents cannot double job working as judges, at least on days when their reps are race riding at the same meet...conflict of interest?
just a query, did the turf club advertise the position of part time judge, the post, the judge officiating today at gowran fills, or was it another one of those cosy cartel in-house racing appointments? after all the senior judge brendan s, was once stable jockey you know where.
i am sure plenty of racing regulars, or stable lads/lasses who have liked the opportunity to work as a part time judge, the sort of job with on the spot training, not requiring too much technical skill or educational qualifications.

Spot on Keen Leader. The same individual got one seriously wrong at clonmel about a year ago. She seems to be over anxious to make an impact by announcing the result ala the infamous Smudger. Nepotism is alive and well in Irish racing.
