Teresa is a 65yr woman has been jailed by the ESB since sept 13th for trying to protect trees on her own land..Teresa agreed that the ESB could run power lines under her land, but did not want them to cut down the beautiful native trees she spent years planting,
“The route is cutting through our forest and the old Whitethorn hedgerows. For over 25 years I have used all my time and energy getting our lands into a place of natural beauty and overnight it can be destroyed with high powered lines going through forests beside the old bridge, the old laneway and through the new Oak and Ash woods I planted over 20 years ago. I have spent many years replacing dead trees and cutting gorse with my hands. I filled containers with water from the river so that my forest is a model. All my trees have been pruned individually by me to promote their growth”
“My heart is broken by the thought that they may be uprooted and thrown away. I know I will never see them in their full glory but was satisfied knowing that others would enjoy them long into the future”

yesterdays Update - The ESB were swarming on Teresa's land today and cut down nearly 1000 trees before noon including a 150 year old Ash Tree. Supporters had gathered by then and stopped them working for the rest of the day. Some supporters are staying on the land overnight. ESB are expected back in force before dawn. Supporters are asked to gather from 6am onwards.

After destroying the country, not one crooked banker has spent so much as an afternoon in jail.

Sure if everybody took her attitude, half the country would be without electricity
true db...she showed a blatant disregard for the court and the judge was left in a no win situation..
Laws sometimes need to be reviewed.Just because its the law doesn't make it right.The more modern our society has become the greater the demand for electricity and the stringing up of pylons here, there and everywhere and cutting the country to ribbons which is what they have done in numerous areas is not the way forward.Its quite clear that policies need to be reviewed and the same techniques that were used in the 70's are not acceptable today.Esb make about 400 million annually and its time they started spending some of it on more advanced methods of running power lines rather than subjecting parts of the population to the health risks associated with pylons and creating a lot of visual eyesores all to enhance their bottom line.
esb arnt in the game to make money my friend .they are there to provide a service.the fact they make money stems from the fact that the eu forces them to raise prices to promote competition.(a small rural country,with a population smaller than greater manchester,it was never gonna attract companys in any great number no matter how high the price was)as for the transmission lines,the cost of underground is so high its not feasable in any way..no counttry has them to any great degree..
