Ballinrobe Races this afternoon. This is the popular County Mayo track's final meeting of 2011. It's an all National hunt card and offers very poor fare on ground sure to be extremely testing.
3:35 www.ballinroberacecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle of €7,500, 2m A dire contest,I was amazed Michael Hourigan didn't declare RUN WITH THE WIND as this looked a penalty for him after his shock Listowel win on the flat ! Only 3 count but the market will be important. BALLYHOURA looked a stayer in bumpers, but didn't appear to get home over 2 1/2miles in Killarney. He ran free on his hurdling debut and possibly showed his hand too much in that Thurles contest before he fell at the last. He travels well, needs to settle better. But he is droping significantly in grade. the market will reveal more about his chances. Smalib Monterg ran ok in a fair Listowel Handicap Hurdle,he'd also caught the eye behind BUNDLE OF FUN here previously and was not knocked about then. Streets Of Newyork has his second spin for Shark,he has some fair form. Not sure if he'll be ok on the Ground but a 3rd to Waaheb was a fair debut.. 3.35 4.05 4.35 5.05 5.35 6.05 6.35
4-35Sponsors Day At Ballinrobe Maiden Hurdle of €7,500.00 6-y-o plus 2m. 4f. Russian Regent a triple point to point winner had a cracking run behind BUNDLE OF FUN who won easily in Listowel. Cecil Ross hasn't trained a winner in 105 days, but hasn't had too many runners. The ground is an unknown factor with him. Dapper Dan off since April drops markedly in Class, but unsure how fit he is ! Acclaimed Piper ran really well in Sligo behind Galway winner EARLS QUARTER and also in Killarney. Murphys Friend looked an out and out stayer in his Killbeggan win, that was a woeful contest. Might lok at the rest of the card later when they've priced it up....
Acclaimed Piper in the 4.35 looks good enough though the trip is a concern.
Ten Fires in the 5.35 back after a break and goes on this might be able to out slog the opposition here.
Chasers Chance in the 6.05,ran a few alright races last year and has an E/W chance in a race that looks wide open.

Having looked at the card inside out there are too many doubts for me to have a punt. Hard to fathom what route JPs horse in the first is going,do they want to win an easy maiden or go handicaping. There are ground concerns with the clear form Choice Russian Regent in the 2 1/2mile maiden hurdle but still has by far the best form along with the long absent DAPPER DAN .
I always thought TEN FIRES over a trip on testing ground was a match made in heaven. Some of Dessie Hughes have been needing the run back, but he's the solid horse in a very trappy race ! In the 6-35 SPRING THE QUEUE will relish the testing ground but isn't getting any younger. ARCH REBEL must be hard to keep sound and the bounce is a factor here. SORCEROR should be able to dominate and is a fair horse but might need today's run,but could be the class act in a field of oldies and crocks... ! La Sarrazine is also top class and any Market Support positive ! But NO BET for me west of CLAREMORRIS.....

Andy Mc as far as I am aware is still with O'Grady. Last week in Listowel Slievedaragh won for Simon Davies/Eddie O'Grady with Geraghty in the saddle. I was told this was at the request of the owner who wasn't satisfied with the ride Andy Mc had given it the previous time.
