The ref gave a free to dublin at 70 mins 51 secs left with 2 mins added on...cluxton took the free kick at 71 mins 51 secs left one minute stopped .The ref blew for full time as KERRY were coming up the field at 72 mins 10 secs!!!!! Kerry should have had another 50 secs allowing for time stopped...AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!!! KERRY SHOULD LAUNCH AN APPEAL...[>o][>o][>o]

Report Swinia September 18, 2011 9:04 PM BST
as a neutral i thought it was one of the worst referring performances in a big game in a while - wouldn't surprise me if he was done for match fixing.

Dubs got a point for a pick up in the square, he gave a ridicolous free against galvin, let McMenemmion away with two hops when if the free was given it would have resulted in a free

interested to see what the Sunday game says

ref was abysmal but best team won imho

Yea disgraceful, what happened to stoppage time in additional time? Look another day, another ref would have stopped his watch and counted how many seconds it took Cluxton to jog the length of the pitch. If an outfield player took that time to take a free he would be blown up. Take nothing away from Dublin they deserved it. Delighted for them. I'm just sick of the different agendas different referee's have. Something needs to be addressed. McQuillan had a mediocre game today, got a couple of decisions spot on and some wrong in my opinion.

There were two winners today, Dublin the All Ireland champions 2011 and Kerry absolute winners. The manner of the players and of course Jack O'Connor. Very gracious in defeat. I'm a huge admire of their self conduct.

I was amazed when he blew for time. It didn`t look good. Kerry should have got one final attack.
Well done Dublin. A long time in offing.

Report Trent Reznor September 19, 2011 8:09 AM BST
Thought the ref was very biased towards Dublin throughout the game. The guest summarizer on RTE TV commentary said the same during the game.

I reckon the GAA hierarchy wanted a Dublin win as they are losing the battle for the hearts & minds of youngsters to rugby in the capital.

If Ireland hadn't beaten Australia on Saturday morning it might have been a different story, but to ensure the All-Ireland winners got top billing on the Sports pages this am they needed a Dublin win.

In the end Dublin took their chance to win the game, but the point is the ref ensured that they were in the game as it drew to a close.
Report thegalwayman September 19, 2011 8:38 AM BST
Given the lack of draws this year and the fact that a replay would have been an absolute beano for the GAA, I was amazed that Kerry were not given the chance to get another score.

pure agony triumph sadly my fellow kerryman were scond best yesterday
Report thefly10 September 19, 2011 9:49 AM BST
Exactly galwayman, I thought the game had a draw written all over it when Dublin got their goal. A draw would have been a fair result, but obviously the GAA are quite happy with their Kitty.
Report Trent Reznor September 19, 2011 10:15 AM BST
A draw with the subsequent financial windfall of the replay would have been of short-term benefit.
In the long run in the battle with rugby in the capital a Dublin triumph, no matter how hollow of phony, was the preferred option.

GAA supporters the length & breadth of the country are delighted.
Even Kerry supporters have been very gracious as they can see the bigger picture.

I'm not a Kerry man, nor a GAA supporter, so for me this stinks.
Report mayway September 19, 2011 12:47 PM BST
The ref should have sent off Sheehan for dragging a player down by the jersey just outside the box when an almost certain goal was on.

Can't see how not doing that was robbing Kerry of anything.

Fantastic day for Ireland and the GAA!

TRUE MAYWAY TRUE
Report thegalwayman September 19, 2011 1:11 PM BST
Why should Sheahan have been sent off? Don't think that there is any professional foul rule in GAA as there is in soccer.
Report firstimevisor September 19, 2011 1:14 PM BST
Trent Reznor, are you jim Corr by any chance?
Report mayway September 19, 2011 1:20 PM BST
He should be sent off for dragging a player down just outside the box when an almost certain goal was on. He's should be ashamed of his performance. But if you're happy with that type of non-sporting thuggery being in our sports then that's your opinion.

The ref could have red carded him there and then for that and no one would have complained.

What's more Donkey Donaghy should have been given his marching orders as well for his theatrical diving 2 minutes from the end. How disappointing it is for an alleged "star" player to resort to this type Drogba-esque non-manliness just because his team were about to be beaten. It's a terrible spectacle. Are Kerry players not conscience of the fact that they're supposed to be role models for the young? Obviously Jack O'Connor is in some way responsible as their manager but it does not bode well for the future of Kerry GAA is their current crop of players are behaving like petulant school boys.
Report thefly10 September 19, 2011 1:24 PM BST
Dont know if Sheehans offense was worthy of a red card, maybe a yellow one. Aidan O'Mahony got away on a few occasions aswell, likewise Galvin but the Finuge man was not as 'fiery' in the tackle as he normally is. I think Ger Brennan should have been booked for his 'palm jab' instead the ref passed no remarks and threw the ball up, another ref would have given him his second yellow. When you see Diarmuid Connolly given his marching orders against Donegal for less, it often makes you wonder!

Again Well done to the Dubs, phenomenal stuff I'm absolutely delighted for everyone involved and of course the true blue supporters who have been waiting 16 odd years for this occasion. I can only imagine what Merrion Sq. will be like later on, over 100k expected!

'Even Kerry supporters have been very gracious as they can see the bigger picture.'- words of Trem Reznor above.

Exactly and that goes for the Jack O'Connor and his players. Maygay you would want to grow up, calling Jack O'Connor a bitter man on another thread.Laugh

Sheehan was the classiest player on the park yesterday, as the others said, you've your rules mixed up with soccer.
Report mayway September 19, 2011 4:12 PM BST
Nope, rules aren't messed up. Sheehan should have gone. He made a mockery of all that Kerry claim to stand for.
Report neill d September 19, 2011 4:29 PM BST
In your subjective oppinion, but there is no rule on professional foul in GAA, maybe you might think it wasn't in the spirit of the game, but it doesn't follow that he should be sent of for this in my oppinion, well done on the win by the way.Happy
Report mayway September 19, 2011 5:40 PM BST
Surely the ref should uphold the spirit of the game? Shenhan could have been red carded there and then to the delight of the entire country, including Kerry, whose strong footballing tradition would frown on this type of cheating.

Sheehan could then appeal the red card afterwards if he felt like and was ignorant enough.

Everybody's happy!

Why does the internet and in particular Betfair attract such morons. Talked to dozens of people yesterday, including Kerry people, not a bad word was said about the ref. Stop wasting electricity. Get off the internet.

Just on the issue of sporting behaviour, what more was, butter wouldn't melt in his mouth, Gooch Cooper pleading with the ref to do with Brennan after his clumsy tackle, seeing as the ref had already gave the free and was already reaching for his notebook.

Also what if the player that Donaghy slapped in the face in the first half had went down like he himself did at the end, he'd have surely been looking at a red card. He can be thankful the Dublin player was a lot more honest than himself.
