What do people think?

Early line is 11 though I see some 12s and 13s appearing.

Starting to think there is a big performance in this Ireland team coming. Conditions were horrific last weekend (Thornley in the IT says much worse than they looked on TV). There were some positives but not many, granted.

My rugby guy has gone up v low on the spread at 9-11 on supremacy. We're looking to take on Australia...at that price i'm pretty sure we will get filled in too.

Unless they have been lying doggo I cant see Ireland putting up a good performance .  Our record overall in the World Cup is not great , we huff and puff a lot but dont win out , a bit like Wales .

From the recent matches there are only about 3 of our lads playing anywhere near their best ( which at times has been good) .  Tired legs I think , lots of miles on the clock , Kauto syndrome .

I had my line at 15 - think the 11 is value

Ioane will be a big loss to the Aussies but they are nt short to replace him - I hope as much as every one else that Ire put up a massive performance and even win this but in no scenario can i see that happening. The last 4/5 games we just look absolutely clueless when attacking, no threat what so ever for the most part

We have been waiting 12-18 months for this massive performance but it is yet to come - maybe we just are nt good enough to compete with the best at the moment Sad

In fairness BJG its only 6 months ago that we smashed England off the park but we have been very average apart from that.
Maybe its my heart ruling head but if this group have anything left to give surely we'll see it on Saturday and plus 13 i'll have a wee play.

with showers forecast, cud be a messy game - suits Ireland to cover.  Will also take Ireland to cover.  Big calls at 9 and 10.  think there cud be a surprise in the back row as well with Heaslip possibly losing out.

Be surprised if we didnt see a ROG - Reddan 9/10

Think Ferris, O Brien and Heaslip are nailed onto be 6/7/8 tbh

1 good performance in  2 years and winners of worst 6 Nations in living memory, danger we are becoming overrated, even now, nothing on recent form bar England game entitles us to get close, reality dose needed imo, we don't have the hands, got to get more pragmatic.

fair call BJG.  Thought Kidney might have set down a marker with Heaslip who has been poor for too long now.  Presume he leaves Jennings out as trying to counter Pocock like for like was a lost cause anyway.  Will be interesting to see how O'Brien goes at seven - didnt work too well v Northampton - that game changed when Jennings came in and O'Brien went to 6.

Flannery on his way home, another calf injury, dont think he will get ever get back to his best form now. Tough on him. Cant see us getting within 10 of them.

Very harsh words against Heaslip. He has been a stand-out performer year after year and had his first bad game in memory against USA. The game against Northampton changed because O'Brien moving to 6 allowed him to carry more, nothing to do with Jennings taken to the field. He has been found wanting everytime he has pulled on a green shirt.

With Ferris at 6 this weekend, there will be less pressure on O'Brien to carry all of the time. The back row named for Saturday is truly world class and it will be the first time they take to the field together. All three players have top all-round games in that they can compete on the deck, carry, link and defend. The positions are interchangeable, which might just give the Aus defence something to think about - they will not be able to simply double up on O'Brien to mark him out of the game. It's the only thing giving me a whiff of hope.

I call b*ll sh1t there Rainer. Heaslip is a great player but has being playing on reputation for Ireland since summer 2010. If Wallace was still part of the tour they're would have been serious questions about continuing with Jamie. The England 6N's blip aside far too many of our players haven't been able to transer their Provincial form to the international stage.

Can't see any hope for us in this one. Our form puts us at the standard of Italy,if not below. Rain might keep the beating below 20 but thats the best we can hope for.

too many players playing on reputation. what does Darcy have to do to get dropped.  Would like to have seen Tommy moved to 13 with BOD going to 12 and Trimble been given the spot on the wing.
Rainier, I am a fan of Heaslip, but he looks like a guy who has been minding himself lately.  I am hoping he has been waiting for the big one; i.e. Saturday to show us his undoubted talents again.  Back Row does give us some hope on Sat, but without a natural 7 in the 15 or 22, I hope we are planning to off-load and not go to ground every time.  I would be optimistic - think there is a decent performance in this side - take Ireland to cover and small stake to win (particularly if wet/windy)

If the weather was fair the line would be the same and you could sell out on australia giving up as many points as you wanted.
Listened to an interview yesterday with Donal Linehan who is at the venue and he said the weather is 100% guaranteed to b e shocking.

On ability there is no betting, there is no big performance in Ireland but the weather is too much of an unknown and the Aussies might be happy enough to tick along at 10 or 12 in front making them losers on the hcap

Is Donal Linehan a weather forecaster? Might impressive for an amateur to be predicting Saturday's weather, with certainty, on a Wednesday!!

think a lot of people mistaking this as a home game for aussies, baased on it being in the SH. Mate of mine was on flight from Sydney to Auckland yesterday and said far more Irish travelling (even from Oz). The aussies keeping their powder dry for Semis and final.  If the weather is messy, and the Irish pack can at least get parity, really think the line is too big at 11. unlike a few above, i think there is a good performance in this irish side
On a side note - lets keep this thread and the General Rugby WC thread running - the Rugby forum gone to pot.

Actually I see now that B356 go 11/8 that Australia do not trail in the match. Arb there for anyone that has access. Think the Powers offer is in-branch only.

massive performance from the irish pack - Rory best immense - maybe we will not miss Jerry so much. Funny thing is that the Irish can play better.  Reddan and Sexton were both very average and did not push home the advantage.  This WC is going to be played out in Wet / Windy conditions generally now - Get ROG on the pitch from the off and if the pack remain injury free and committed, maybe we can start to dream!!!
