to tell us that he wouldn't be backing Born To Sea,Powers best days were behind him and I dont know what about the Leger-presumably that the favourite was a good thing. All this while looking bored and not providing any genuine insight into betting exchange activity.Surely the production company could find a local lad to do the job.
If you don't rate him fair enough, but why bring his nationality into it? Can't see that it is relevant.
Should every Paddy 'brought over from Ireland' be returned to our shores so that a local lad can do their job?
Personally I find Tom Lee to be articulate, eloquent, well presented and attired and forthright. He clearly has had some professional media training, is comfortable with the camera and avoids the 'ums' and 'ems' and 'you knows' of some of our local bretheren.

I bring his nationality into it because I cant understand how the job can be done properly without going racing in Ireland on a regular basis. He is polished,he obviously has media training but he doesn't do a great job of reporting exchange activity-as with his female colleague on Ch4 racing it's all about his personal fancy and there is very little real analysis.

It's RTE racing the majority of watching license payers don't really care about betting exchange activity. It isn't a dedicated racing channel and thus it shouldn't need to focus attention on the exchanges.

His nationality is relevant because he has no idea of Irish form and most young people are at ease in front of a camera.I watch him on Channel 4 and think he is monosyllabic and lacks any knowledge of racing.

What capacity?, I'd think he is a presenter, I presume the issue is with how he presents, so of what relevance is his capacity, presuming he does something else besides presenting. I agree with itcanbedone, he is more than adequete, what specifically has he done wrong?, with regard to the Irish formbook, surely noone is actually looking for a tip from him, if you're going to sack Tom for knowing nothing about racing, you better take Bill O'Herlihy as well for knowing nothing about soccer if things are to be equitable. I can't believe someone would take issue with Lee, and not say a word against the fawning, stuttering Gleeson.
Also, how come noone mentions how bloody awful that lad Griffin is at commentating, Lee is at least competent.
Wildman, I've seen plenty of 'young people' in front of a camera, on radio, MCing, DJing etc, and believe me, don't overestimate em, they ain't all comfortable.

Neill -he is employed as an exchange analyst/expert.in my opinion he doesn't do a great job-being more concerned with his own opinions as opposed to what is actually happening on betfair. Where did I say he knows nothing about racing-given his family background that would be hard to achieve.

The Oracle of Waterford Eddie Batt has been on here posting about Tom Lee in the past and clearly an axe to grind with him. I don't know why his presence on RTE bothers you so much, or what his being English has to do with anything.
Predictable enough that the pathetic moneypenny (JFH) would be along to post on his master's thread.

Tom Lee offers no meaningful insight into exchange activity -there was obviously a serious gamble on Born To Sea yesterday -it would be nice to hear the facts and figures behind the gamble as opposed to a personal opinion that he wouldn't win.The ideal candidate could perhaps have told us the record of newcomers in listed or group races and the last time Ox introduced any of his in a listed race. A specialist job demands specialist knowledge to share with the viewers.

Good point Eddie, I'd have been interested to hear those statistics, but rather than lacking skill, I'd have thought he should have researched it better, the strength of the horse in the market clearly caught him on the hop alright, he probably did try and hide his lack of research through dogmatism, but overall, I think he is good.
