reported on RTE website ..... shame and a bit of a surprise ...... although in the past he didn t seem to stay around for long either ..... pity either way did a good job in organising Limerick this year and seemed to be well respected by the players

Cork might be regreting giving it to JBM. Thought O Grady did a fine job and is an excellent root and branch man. Is that ape Fitzgerald staying on with Waterford? O Grady would do a good job for them
Terrible news...He done a brilliant job...Hopefully some big name will step in and keep up the improvement...Limerick is a very proud county and they will have an All Ireland Senior Hurling Title in the next 10 years...
They should have got a man that was going to stay for a few years...imo
Would LOVE to see him take over Offaly. The hurlers are there, Joe Dooley done a good job but they need someone of his calabre to take them to the next level.
Awful news, JP, get Liam Sheedy, he has the track record of working with talented young players.
Yeah Kavvie thats a hinderence alright, cant see our useless County Board having the brains to go after him anyways.

big surprise..i wonder what the reason was?
I assume the stupid new GAA rule where Limk have to stay in D2 for the league even though they won it had a major part to play!
Worst decision i have ever seen to enforce that after they winning promotion - absolute joke!!

Despite winning promotion to Division One with April’s league final victory over Clare, a restructuring of the league for 2012 is to see Limerick placed in Division 1B along with Clare, Offaly, Wexford, Laois and Antrim.
After five rounds of action, the top two sides will contest a final with just the winners promoted.

Big blow for Limerick, DOG had brought Limerick hurling back to where it belong and now he has thrown it all up in the air. The revamp of the NHL's was a another blow to them.
Has to be some other reason why he didnt stay on-he said he would wait until he met Co. board on 20th Sept and show them some reports before deciding what to do.
Didn't he always say it was for one year only. Fair play to him, did a fine job and if anything enhanced his reputation.
McKENNA definetly has to be more to it, expect to hear the reasons in the next few days.. I doubt Sheedy will go back into management, he left Tipp last year due to work commitments. Babs might be interested...

THE pain of Limerick’s All-Ireland U-21 hurling championship semi-final defeat has been softened by the news that Limerick GAA officials have begun negotiations with senior manager Donal O’Grady to extend his stay on Shannonside.
Officially O’Grady’s tenure in Limerick ended over the weekend and from the outset of his appointment he stated that he was only interested in staying with Limerick for one season.
However, it now appears that the former Cork All-Ireland winner is to be tempted to remain in charge for at least another season. Rumours persisted over the weekend that O’Grady had agreed to continue but County Board officials were remaining tightlipped.
While any positive news on O’Grady continuing as manager would receive a broad welcome there was despair in Limerick after confirmation from Croke Park on Saturday that Limerick is to remain outside of hurling’s elite for next season’s Allianz Hurling League.
Despite winning promotion to Division One with April’s league final victory over Clare, a restructuring of the league for 2012 is to see Limerick placed in Division 1B along with Clare, Offaly, Wexford, Laois and Antrim.
After five rounds of action, the top two sides will contest a final with just the winners promoted.
No doubt, many of this season’s U-21s will be given a chance to impress when the league resumes next spring.
They endured heartbreak in Thurles on Saturday evening when they lost to Galway, 0-22 to 2-14 in the All-Ireland semi-final.
Leo O’Connor’s side never reached the heights of their epic Munster final victory over Cork.
“Twenty two points is a lot to concede – we missed a few handy scores that were there for the taking,” said a disappointed O’Connor afterwards.
“We created goal chances and didn’t take them and hence we have a two point defeat.”
Limerick captain Kevin Downes lined out despite suffering a cracked bone in his hand during the Munster final just over two weeks ago.
However the full forward was forced off before half time.
“Kevin did his utmost to get there and you could see that the little bit of sharpness just wasn’t there. You can do all the running you want but the first touch was lacking,” said the Limerick manager.
Downes is now is a race against time to be fit for the county senior championship quarter finals this weekend. His Na Piarsaigh side face Doon, champions Kilmallock play Patrickswell, Ahane face Adare and intermediate champions Hospital-Herbertstown play Emmets.

Jokes aside, Hope Limerick County Board get the correct man for the job. Was always a big fan of Limerick hurling. Davy Fitz? Clare, Galway or Limerick?? The bridge man is a shrewd operator.
O'Grady always said he was only ever staying one year.

attention for the year.
Yeah, Davy was some "judge" alright...record hidings vs. Tipp & KK...80k a year from the Co. Board.
Leaving aside Cunningham's solo run in getting him to stay, the County Board is broke, and the grassroots simply would not have gone fundraising to pay that man...the wounds of the Munster Final are still raw.

The word in Cork is that Donal O'Grady is being lined up for Frank Murphy's job as Runai (Secretary Of the Cork County Board when he retires.
Another rumor suggested Cork County Board were planing a Director Of Hurling (Paid Job)with O Grady fancied ! but the former is the likelier........[:x]
