I don't see Ireland winning by more then fifteen to be honest.
By:
Me neither. i mean five converted tries is still only 35 points. When was the last time this ireland team really opened up an opponent.
By:
well the moneys on :) 10/11 at + 36 with lads. heres hoping.
By:
+17 usa first half a better bet
By:
Personally I'd wait for the teams to be announced
By:
Redroar surely USA play full strength side, while most of the lads seem to think even a full strength Irish side will do very well to cover?
By:
Why would you wait for the teams to be announced?
The spread is based on a full-strength Irish team (IMO) so you can only benefit from Ireland not playing a few first-teamers |
By:
Yes i agree with that db don't understand that logic at all.
By:
20 points at most for Ireland I would have thought.
Surprised Irish Firm priced up like this |

lads eddie o sullivan was on newstalk last week saying they were targeting the game against russia as it was their only realistic hope of a win which takes place 4 days after the ireland game,he said the eagles squad was fairly weak and that whilst he would be playing some of his stronger players against ireland the 4 day turnaround was very short and that they were focusing on the russia match,i think thats the reason for the h'cap,
ive been watching the h'cap betting the last few weeks myself and am gonna back ireland -34 at paddy powers at 10/11, |
By:
Of course u should wait for the teams to be announced if u are wading in - the bigger teams will rest a lot of players in these lesser games but still have plenty quality to bring in
But equally there is a quick turnaround for the smaller teams, the likes of USA,Russia,Namibia and the likes and they will equally rest players in games they have no chance of winning Whether they will rest them in the first game i dunno but if there is no Ngwenya,MacDonald,Clever,Emerick etc.. i would nt be rushin to back em. Would nt be wading in on any handicap bet without knowing the teams myself but each to their own! |
By:
Thanks BJG you saved me the effort there

Left out a line
*Of course u should wait for the teams to be announced if u are wading in - the bigger teams will rest a lot of players in these lesser games but still have plenty quality to bring in which weakens them but only slightly - where as the smaller teams, if they rest their few big names are significantly weakened as they do not have the quality in their squads. USA full team v Ireland full team - Ire win by 30 USA full team v Ireland weakened team - Ire win by 20+ USA weakened team v Ireland full team 0 Ire win by 50 USA weakened team v Ireland weakened team - Ire win by 40 imo An awful lot depends on the teams imo |

the usa shipped 87 points in june to the england saxons, the england 2nd team!!!!!!!
to be fair the usa tried a few players but if they're looking past ireland to their next game they could ship a fair few here also, very good advice from bjg,i will be having a few euro on ireland-34 there's no way i'd be wading in, |
By:
No chance Eddie O'Sullivan will not smell blood in this imo, smart boy Eddie playing down his chances !
By:
The USA were minus their 6 best players against the Saxons, it's the only real blot on their cv, a squad no stronger gave England a seriously good game at the start of the last world cup.
Eddie has coached the Americans before at a world cup, the minnow teams struggle to get their full squads together before the world cup stages. He knows this Irish team and they will be well drilled. We will win but I don't think by 37 points, in this form we wouldn't beat anyone by 37 points. |
By:
Very fair comments Squigs !
By:
By the time the teams have been announced, the line will be moved.
How do you think the lesser teams get to improve? By playing weakened sides against the bigger nations? There is no way USA's main players will put up with being rested for the matches against Australia and/or Ireland so as to beat the likes of Russia. |
By:
Very good post there BJG and that pretty much sums up my thoughts. I've had the misfortune of watching the USA 5/6 times the past 2 years and I think bar Namibia they're probably the worst team in the competition. I'd expect the opening line to be the high 30's so have taken the -33 with SJ's.
The USA are a penalty machine and I think their discipline is only going to be worse because of the day thats in it. Still a lot of the minnows beat the caps four years ago so its small stakes only for the first round |
By:
When are the teams announced?

USA only have a 4 day turnaround from their game v Ireland to the game against Russia - would u rather ur best players got injured in a game u cant win or save them to beat Russia and get a win at the WC?
Obviously a team like Ire and the bigger rugby nations believe they can progress far in the tournament but for the minnows wionning a game at the WC would represent a big achievement for them! As i said USA may not rest any players but i do believe it is a big possibility with the quick turnaround to the 2nd game And even when the teams are announced the line wont move that dramatically - there is always plenty of time to get on b4 the line moves Not sure when the team is named RF - either tomorrow/Friday |
By:
On a side note was interested to read earlier that Ireland have the oldest squad in the whole tournament too - last chance saloon for a lot of em
By:
Cheers BJG valid comments as always !

A buddy of mine, whos involved in the rugby circle and who knows a few of the younger irish players reccommended the handicap to me. He was saying that no matter what ireland team is put out they wont rack up big points.
Now rugby wouldnt be my forte so im only saying what was said to me. Firstly, they wont want to use any of their main running lines or moves from the scrum as apparently the tougher opponents in the group will anyalse these and know that they are coming and how to defend against them. The same he said , will apply to the lineout calls and subsequent moves that develop from the lineout. So for the first game it will be very much off the cuff rugby which he says ireland dont do well. he gave me a few examples of games where ireland havent wanted to show their hand in the first game. Such as the italy game in the six nations last year where they only scraped past them , but admittedly the usa are no italy. |

wud be worried when you punting big on the basis that their manager would like nothing more than to get one over on the Irish.
Beyond some of the accurate words of wisdom posted earlier re team news, the weather also has a big part to play in covering h/caps. A wet and windy day normally makes it more difficult to cover. Early forecast that I have seen is not great. Against that the US front row supposed to be particularly weak, which will be a serious disadv. if a game of many srums (which you will get on a wet day). Summary - if you going in big, have all the influencing facts in play. Manager's emotions not one of them. |

As i said USA may not rest any players but i do believe it is a big possibility with the quick turnaround to the 2nd game thats what i was trying to get at yesterday, rugby is a this kind of sport,i remember a game a few years ago in the magners league where connacht were beaten 50 odd points to nil away to a welsh team and less than a week later they beat leinster in galway, when connacht coach michael bradley was interviewed after he said that they had been targeting the leinster game for a win, this was seen as progress in my opinion ireland can put up any score they want against the usa,it depends on their mood, im backing ireland but keeping the stakes small |

Any chance your mate could get us the Irish starting team before it's offically announced BigNotorious?
I don't know if I buy into that keeping your powder dry/don't show your hand stuff to be honest. Ireland haven't shown any decent backline play worth hiding the past 12 months . I'm backing them not on their merits but on how awful the USA are. |
By:
Most people supporting the USA at the prices seem to be ignoring the most important factor: Ireland are a far, far superior side. There is absolutely zero chance of Ireland resting players or holding back for this match. USA might have a coach who wants to get one over Ireland, but Ireland have a coach who wants to get one over him. Ireland performed poorly in their warm-up matches, yes, but took umbrage with the media for questioning their preparation and asked to be judged on the main event. They are coming into this on the back of a dire World Cup last time around and have just as much to prove as the USA. They know that the knives are out and that nothing short of a convincing victory will be satisfactory.
Apparently, Healy is the only major injury doubt and is unlikely to be risked. USA are a dire outfit and if Ireland approach this in the manner of a Test Match then a handicap in the low 30s should be a cakewalk given dry conditions. Alas, the forecast is for rain. |

Healy is out
By:
h'cap is down to 33 at 10/11 at powers, but its still 36 at evs with ladbrokes
By:
Further to goodman above, the hcp is 32 with Sporting Bet and still 36 with Laddies
On another note, it's good to see Ladbrokes back on Oddschecker |

An awful lot of that USA team are effectively amatuers. I'm not trying to big up Ireland as we haven't had a decent backline move in 18 months but even run straight/fix man/pass to outside player will yield a few tries.
For those who aren'r restricted to 25p with bet frederick the -31 is a cracking bet imo |
By:
Well done OP. Not a keen leader thread but a profitable thread all the same.
By:
WD, never in doubt really
Ire horrible in attack, completely dominated at the scrum and lineout and stil could do nothing - very ominous for the rest of the games! Would nt even be confident of beatin bloody Italy! |

good call

Thanks lads
![]() im delighted now tbh. Was my second biggest bet ever so im over the moon. I have to say i was a bit nervous when I saw the team and eveyones posts on here. Most people seemed to fancy the minus handicap! Had a bit of a sleepless one last night , not used to the big bets [:p] Cant wait to go in to lads now later on and slap the docket on the counter On the downside, how awful did ireland look??? seriously worrying..surely they have a few more gears though! |

Get in !!!!!!!!!!

Well done indeed, had my hole well and truely opened up.
Is it still 2007? Because that looked horribly like Ireland versus Namibia |
