He won an 8k handicap ealier in the week with a beast that cost half a million quid.

Winning a dozen races at a meeting is a huge achievement. But there's nothing wrong with Lyons or anyone else adding a little context.

Lyons would be delighted to win one 'little' 11k handicap.

Funny how all his 2 yr olds who are 'listed class' disappear off the radar every year. He spouts some amount of rubbish.

He is correct on this matter though imo, think how many winners Oxx would have if he did the same. Context is indeed needed

Have to agree with Ger Lyons, Weld has a comfort zone and can afford to keep decent horses locked up and be prepared for Galway, he is as the media like to let us know the King of all he surveys at Ballybrit. He deliberately lays horses out for Galway, but look at the big picture he could just as easy have layed these horses out for a race at The Curragh, Gowran or Killarney or where ever he so wished, no surprise that they are layed out for Galway so he can wallow in the hype!.

In fairness to Ger Lyons , all his two year old listed horses seem to get sold to HK hence disappearing off the radar as you say but financially keeping his operation well afloat

Someone on RTE said near enough the same yesterday after Teach Nua won. Can't remember who it was but they said the owner loves to have a winner at Galway and if he is happy to pay training fees all year to lay one out for a €6,000 or whatever it was handicap then so be it

I had a conversation with someone about this on Monday but it was about the 2yo who won. He was 3 months waiting to win that maiden with him!
He should concentrate on improving his strike rate across the road imho!

If a wealthy man like Dr. Lambe wants to spend the odd million every year on bloodstock and gets a buzz out of a winner at Galway so be it.........he who pays the piper calls the tune..........I'm sure Ger would climb down off his soap box to attract a similar owner.

Lyons professed to dislike both Galway and the Curragh in the past. A few winners at HQ has him singing a different tune today. A premier handicap or nursery winner in Ballybrit wouldn't have him feeling so bilious.

The Weld galway modus operandum is unique I would say in the world. It's an ego-maniac taking advantage of (mostly) rich men's playthings. What makes it possible is the calibre of horse he gets his hands on. Does Dr Lambe have the same objectives as Bigwilly when he's celebreating yet another winner I wonder?

In fairness to Lyons and his 2yo's he has a fair knack of getting reasonably inexpensive yearlings to win and get them packed off to pastures new. The must be maiden winners with a rating promising to be listed class as they mature.

Some day I get time I must see how the Sean Jones P&L account looks after a few years in action.

Thurs: 1 today at Galway, Reggae Rock goes back to where he won at 2. Big prize but as he's not trained by DKW I guess he'll struggle!

Yesterday sends a tweet to Ch4s J.McGrath "brief visit, carnage! Bumped into a terrifying DKW machine that's on a fierce rampage in these parts just now!"

Sends another one a few mins later "@McGracing DKW isn't even afraid of the IMF raiding Ireland!"

retweets a Matt Chapman one "Heading to Ballybrit for another night of the Dermot Weld Festival".

And today "Dark Passion only 1 at Galway & that's it finished for us thank God! Get back to the rest of the season & some sanity.DP is a nice colt."

The running of the racing industry is very insular and confined to the old boys network. Very seldom will anyone venture to step outside this consensus and look for change. Ger Lyons has barely dipped his toe in the water in this regard and posters here are having a go. I welcome someone in his position speaking his mind .

Ger Lyons is a prize bollixx,a nasty little bollixx actually,he wouldn't train pigs to be dirty the little unctuous rodent.His record is rubbish,what did he ever win,he's an all weather man and in the general scheme of things he is absolutely no danger to the top trainers in the big races.Weld ,O Brien ,Oxx,Bolger would definitely not be worried if Lyons had a runner in a big race.Latham is an average rider and well suited to the man with the big ego but unfortunately without the results to back it up

Well, say what ya think anyway, he's had a few Group 3 horses, Fiery Lad, Summit Surge, and I suppose his achievements don't back his opinion of himself to some extent, but then I'm sure he would say he gets rubbish stock and makes the best of it.

When Khalid Abdullah linked up with Weld, I thought he'd get more Group lrvel horses, hasn't been the case

Could Riviera Poet not have been campaigned a bit more vigorously, plenty of nice pattern races gone by, but sure thank god the aul sore shins came right for Galway for this Group 1 horse as Weld calls him
