Whilst I understand the need to make a much profit as they can the current tack that PP are taking on these in-shop specials that they are currently offering would make you question their social responsibility particularly after the incident in Gorey
Clearly these bets are targeting those punters that don’t understand the game and the ones that constantly lose. The fact every time you walk into one of their shops you are getting them rammed down your throat suggests they are making serious money on them
I just left a PP office just before the 2pm at Goodwood and on screen was Name the 1st 4 in any order and we will pay you 125/1
The 2.00 Goodwood was an 18-runner handicap the Tricast combined would have paid you 123/1 and that’s with the Fav placed
That is one of the worst specials I have ever seen in my life and clearly tailored towards those unfortunates that constantly lose
I would point out that they are paying 1/5 odds at all races Goodwood Galway whilst the majority of bookmakers in Irish shops and online are paying ¼ odds
As I stated its their duty to make as much money as they can for their shareholders but do they have to be so cynical in their approach
If this thread lasts why not highlight your favourite PP in-shop special
The 125/1 covers 24 possible combinations so a €1 stake pays €125
So you are actually getting odds of just under 3,125/1 for each possible combo
Unless my maths is wrong
Suppose there were 25 possible combos
€1 stake for 25 combos = €0.04 per combo Winnings = €125 from your stake of €0.04 Price = 125/0.04 = 3,125/1

If I think correctly all specials are guaranteed and if the SP return is greater you get paid that, but I do agree a lot of the specials are just mug bets designed to entice betting shop sheep into doing bets that are virtually impossible to get up.

Db i would agree with your maths but to pick the 1st 4 in a 18 runner handicap you would expect a lot more than 3125 i would expect they priced it up with the first 4 in the betting as a guide to the minimum it would pay and came up with 750/1 divided it by six and offered 125/1 and all other outcomes their profit shocking to say the least

trooper, I see what you're saying. There's no real way of working out the correct prices but, in fairness, it's unlikely that PP were undercutting themselves anyway!

look at there place markets and Insurabet 2 and 3 on oddschecker. Don't honestly know why they bother as are always about 30% shorter on ALL runners than anyone else that is pricing them up.Some poor mug in a shop thinks he's probably getting value. The tightest, hungriest crowd imo behind the happy green facade.

I did that special in the 2.00.I had they 2nd,5th ,6th and the 7th,so i nearly collected at 125/1.If the 3rd,4th and the winner werent in the race,I would have collected.

jv On a related point. I was in a shop around 5 yesterday and the guy was claiming there was money for "Inter" to beat Barca in some pre-season tournament. From 15/2 into 13/2!!! I was in a rush and would never bet on a friendly, but I thought the price was curious to say the least. The 2010 European champions would hardly be that price even in the Nou Camp. I found out later that it was in fact not Internazionale of Milan but Internacional of Brazil!!! I`m pretty certain he didn`t allude to this ever so slightly important fact. Sc#m.
