To be honest lads, this is the kind of stuff that makes banks refuse loans to people with Betfair accounts, gamblers always get it in the neck, what about the smokers and alcos. That said there is nothing that can burn money like the gambling. McConville isn't the best casestudy if the regulators are taking his oppinion on the new casino laws either.

everybody has their own type of escape from reality. Be it Cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, gambling even shopping! Theres nothing wrong with it in moderation. The majority can but the minority go on to suffer.

Indeed cookiemonster, I haven't read his book or seen this interview, but I hope he takes his share of the responsibility for his actions and doesn't just blame the lot on the gambling industry. We've all been cleaned out at one stage or another to some extent, it is hard to stop sometimes, the sense of loss is painful, you've to fight the urge to 'go back in', but we do it. I know he has been an excellent sportsman, but he is definitely a weak character also, that is his issue and if it wasn't gambling, it would probably be something else.
