So so true Rf.
I just watched a montage of our European nights and there is nothing to compare to the feeling of pure ecstasy that I have felt on more than one such occasion.
When Trevor Molloy scored the winning penalty in Pittodrie and Joey N`dos equalised in Salzburg, it could best be described as heaven on earth on both occasions. It is hard to replicate that in everyday life.
I`m sure wr will be able to describe it to you later.

Yes shame on me not getting to Lincoln Financial Field to see all the games, after all it would just be a 7-8 hour flight and cost me the guts of €8,000 to get there to see the home games and then more if they make the playoffs. I suppose i will just have to make do with watching on my sofa.

I do appreciate it is hard for many to relate to the feeling of belonging to a sports/football club.
For me it`s easy because I grew up in the shadows of Dalymount but if I didn`t, I may well have the say attitude as so many of my fellow countrymen and not give a damn.

No GS it was not meant to be a dig, i was trying to point out that some of use enjoy sports that don't have a local team so it's a little harder for us to go to the games. That dpes not mean they are not proper fans as some are trying to make out

No local teams so you go and 'follow' a team from a city you have no connection with, from another country and a country most of you hate and best of all when these same players play for England you hate them and want to see them lose to anyone. Some even follow a team in the league 1 and 2, but it's not supporting it might be following but it's not supporting, like football fans do like us do we have a special bond with our clubs that you will never experience and i am sure anybody reading this will think i'm a right jumped up little C U Next Tuesday (maybe i am) but that's my opinion and it will never change.

Would be great to see them in Croker or the Aviva in the next year or two. Mind you, it would be great to see them playing any ball this season, the way things are going at the moment.

A have a friend pf(believe it or not!), who loves Chicago. Been there a dozen times and he`s big into U.S. sports. He follows the fortunes of their big teams, mainly the Bears and the Cubs. He is also a big Bohs fan.
Now If I asked him what was his passion? I know what his answer would be.
He wants them do as well as possible. He wants us to win everything possible. 
This is not an elitist attitude either but it all goes back to that sense of belonging. 
I believe that fans of smaller clubs have a greater sense of togetherness and feel more of a part of the experience. I do of course envy teams with the amazing atmosphere of 50,000 fans at home games, but can those people stop and talk to the guy who scored that winning goal last weekend in the street? Not likely.
That`s why it was so heartbreaking for Louth fans last year.
They waited and waited and when they got their chance it was cruelly taken away. And now the wait goes on. 
Let`s hear it for the little guy.

Around 10 years DV, got really into football when i was around 16, i probably should of supported the Steelers or Patriots at least would of had some winning times

It would be great to see them over here, i got to see the shootout against the Cowboys on my way to Vegas in 2008, 41-37 to the Cowboys in Texas, was an unreal game, DeSean Jackson was clear through and dropped the ball on the 1 yard line thinking he had crossed the plain

Sure i'd love for any game to be played here, even a college game

Yeah GS a lot of American sports fans around now, baseball is the one sport i can't work out, sure it's just rounders ain't it

i know that feeling you speak about lads ..its one that makes you feel you own the club never mind belong to it....as you say giant that intimate feeling between fans and players is priceless ...i'm sure most on here have experienced it at one time or another ..unless of course you're whats known as a nerd......then is pointless even trying to explain....

as a galway utd fan i have heard some stuff that would shock you.  it will be common knowledge fairly soon and will make headlines both here and across the pond.  on another note we have lost 16 on the trot and only have 4 pros on the payroll.  being a true fan can break your heart.

ye newmanix can remember in tears on the pitch that night in tolka when we sent down,in hingsight it was prob the best thing that could of happened too us,we got the club back up running got the 400 club in there,its sad to see galway really down and out lovely city and ground and a great set of fans many a good night we had with youse down in galway.maybe a stint in the 1st division wont be too bad for you and maybe you can get a fans club like rovers and sort out the mess the previous directors left behind,keep the faith,god can i remember bad days rovers had in the past

I don`t think they did anything other than meet in the airport wr although I could be wrong. Not many direct flights to Slovenia so we went through Munich but it wasn`t a charter as originally planned. The lord knows how Pats organised that in the space of a few days. Total sham of a competition.
As for the game, they look handy, and I expect no less than a park the bus scenario from our manager in time honoured tradition!

well i for one wish them well giant ..with all your financial woes this is the last place you'd want to play ...if ye manage a 1.0.defeat its not the end of the world ...i think bohs will be hard to beat in dalymount ...hope it works out for pats as well ..from what you posted on the other thread seems like they are having a mare trying to get to the place and the same training ..still irish teams are a lot fitter than yesteryear..hopefully it all ends in wins or draws for ye both...

St Patrick's Athletic left Kazakhstan with their hopes of qualifying for the third round of the Europa League still alive after a 2-1 defeat to FC Shakhter Karagandy.

The Kazakh side took the lead early in the second half, defender Nikola Vasiljevic scoring from a Zhambyl Kukeyev corner.

Substitute Dave McMillan equalised for Pat's with just over 10 minutes left on the clock but Karagandy scored again, Vasiljevic scoring for a second time with just five minutes left, giving his side the lead ahead of Thursday's second leg.

Kargandy deserved their lead having had the majority of the chances although Derek Doyle and Paul Crowley both had efforts at goal for Pat's in the first half.

Pete Mahon made changes, with Crowley and fellow striker Anto Murphy replaced by David McMillan and Ian Daly as they continued to search for an equaliser in the second half.

Both McMillan and home captain Andrei Finonchenko picked up yellow cards as Karagandy continued to have most of the play. Karagandy sub Serik Dosmanbetov was also yellow carded in injury time.

But Pat's kept plugging away and their efforts eventually bore fruit, with McMillan finding the net soon after Pat's captain Steven Bradley had a free-kick saved by Aleksandr Grigorenko in the Karagandy goal.

A draw looked to be on the cards after another Rogers' save, and an Evan McMillan chance from a Bradley corner, before Vasiljevic's second gave his side a narrow advantage ahead of Thursday's second leg.

Minor comp? Do you know anything about football? the Europa league is the second biggest club competition in the world behind champs league. Anyway that's about as expensive as trip you could make but i would still say they probably won't lose out of it although they won't make anything either. You get 90k per round so that should go a long way to going towards the expenses. The gate receipts from the home tie will probably push them into profit for the tie.

they've split our group and if we get through this stage ...we have the possibility of a few nightmare trips .....

great result id say mahon would have taken his hand off for a 1-0 defeat but to get a away goal that great,best of luck in the home leg,say richmond will be packed
