Ireland suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to Pakistan on the first day of the snooker World Cup in Bangkok - despite the Pakistan team's highest break during the match being just 25.
Former world champion Ken Doherty was partnered by world number 37 and 1999 British Open champion Fergal O’Brien but, despite putting in two century breaks, they could not overcome Muhammad Sajjad (pictured) and Sahid Aftab in their group stage clash at the Bangkok Convention Centre in Thailand.
The Irish still have a chance to qualify for the next round but must beat Egypt on Wednesday.
Maybe they won the frames where they got century breaks and lost 3 scrappy frames,it's simple really, maybe not simple enough for wonks to grasp, but simple all the same

That's funny, seriously Pakistan didn't have a break higher than 25?!?! I'm surprised we haven't had a decent player breakthrough for a good while now. Hope David Morris can start achieving things on the pro tour sometime. A few other young lads too I'm surprised that haven't done better

According to the article below, one of the Pakistani lads (Shahid Aftab) got a break of 74 to beat O'Brien and then breaks of 39 & 23 to beat Dohertyhttp://www.thenews.com.pk/TodaysPrintDetail.aspx?ID=57278&Cat=10&dt=7/12/2011
