watched this race earlier and felt an anger i've not felt about a horse race in a long long time....before anyone thinks its pocket talk all i had on this fellow was 50 euro @ 3/1 with baddies....i've always defended irish racing on the racing forum when they've started the usual rancid irish racing etc etc..but having watched this race tonight i am nearly agreeing with that statement , as this race left a very sour taste in my mouth...this horse lead everywere in its last race , yet no effort whatsoever was made tonight to take it into the lead....it was held up 6th of seven runners for most of the race...even when it was clear to a blindman that welds horse was going nowere the jockey never moved it outside of it to get a run... so here we have a horse that won from the front lto allowed to sit way out of its ground and was imo never asked a serious question ..a few token taps down the neck coming into the straight ..were it hung slightly , the horse was again imo not allowed  run to its true merits ... i hope the stewards asked for an explanation ..although i will not be surprised it they diden't ... this type of ride does nothing to benifit irish racing imo...anyone else have an opinion on this race and the riding of same....

Did you see it first time out wr? Every bit as bad as tonight.
Report workrider July 11, 2011 11:05 PM BST
but why drop a horse out 6th of 7 for most of the race ..the same horse that looked transformed by been allowed lead lto ...i'll use the words strange ride giant.. only to keep my temper.....
Report Bigwillystyle July 11, 2011 11:11 PM BST
LOL at Wonky! I layed itLaugh.  Thought myself watching it that it wasadisgrace. The horse finished full of running. Not off s yard, but why stop it?  Us there a 12F handicap in Galway? This horse is well handicaped one.
Report workrider July 11, 2011 11:14 PM BST
glad to see we agree on something littleman but why the lol....you want to how us your lay bet littleman...?

I know I`m in the minority on this forum with this view wr, but I firmly believe our racing is tin pot, and enjoys an elevated global status that it does not deserve.
Yes we have good horses, but the product is an unregulated joke and I don`t see that ever changing.
Report workrider July 11, 2011 11:15 PM BST
have been out most of the evening giant... do you happen to know if the stewards ask about the ride....?
Report BJG July 11, 2011 11:16 PM BST
Looked poor indeed

I had a situation like this tonight myself with one at Windsor

Last time when a decent winner

1
10         Urban Kode (IRE) 2/1F     3     8-13 v     David Evans     63     *     *
b c Kodiac - Urbanize (USA) (Chester House)     Kieran O'Neill5

Made all, ridden over 1f out, edged right, ran on (op 9-4 tchd 5-2)

    Tonight
6
9     hd     Urban Kode (IRE) 2/1F     3     8-9 v     David Evans     63     *     *
b c Kodiac - Urbanize (USA) (Chester House)     Kieran O'Neill5

Took keen hold, held up in last trio, shaken up 4f out, effort on outer over 2f out, no impression over 1f out, faded (op 9-4 tchd 5-2)

Makes u scratch ur head whether they are thick enough to change instructions that clearly suit to horse or whether they know well wat they are doin [smiley:crazy]
Report workrider July 11, 2011 11:24 PM BST
yes bjg its a question of taking punters for fools ..aob should come out and justify these change of instructions to his jockey otherwise he is leaving himself open to criticism ..with punters leaving horse racing and backing other sports instead its important that the sport be seen as been above this kind of thing ..maybe aob will be good enough to enlighten us...

And Mr O Neill gave away the outside to no1 the whole way around [>o]

Beggars belief this game at times

bjg that horse in windsor missed the break.
Report Mordin. July 11, 2011 11:35 PM BST
WR watched the video there, dont think the other jockeys wanted to let him get the lead and then he was in a poor position from then on. His Roscommon run wasnt good and Im not sure he is that resolute or that well handicapped.
Report BJG July 11, 2011 11:51 PM BST
No it didnt coco, broke perfectly and was strangled back

It popped out of the stalls fine. If you think that's a missed break then your eyes need looking at.
Report punchestown July 12, 2011 2:55 AM BST
workrider, the change of tactics were odd but didn't see much wrong in the race itself,it hung fire when asked to do anything in straight and didn't seem to have much left in the tank.

Report workrider July 12, 2011 11:11 AM BST
thanks for the replys lads ..punchestown re him hanging in the straight i already highlighted that ...my point is why change tactics that were seen to work ...not knocking your opinion either btw and  thanks for replying.imo punchestown this lad has a kink in him having found the answer why change ....if you look at the video he was never chased along to get the lead once they left the stalls...when out in front  he seems to get on with it and dident hang when allowed lead..the pace last night was less than frantic so he could have sent him on....
Report workrider July 12, 2011 11:17 AM BST
mordin my answer to yo is much the same as the one to punchestown...we knew by his run in rosscommon that he wasent the easiest of rides...i'm sure he's not the most resolute in that stable by any means , but he should have at least attempted to push the horse into contention..
