It's not played before every GAA match......only inter county and county finals.........I think it adds to the occasion........the national anthem played before the national game still commands respect from the crowd.

Fair enough Gant, obviously that's what i should have said 'intercounty'

if they're going to have Amhrán na bhFiann then do it right
playin a scratchy auld record of it over the tannoy before the louth-meath game was poor form; a televised game too as if they were no bands in the whole of county Cavan that could have turned up and done a grand version of the anthem |

It's people not letting it finish before they start roaring that bugs me and it seems this is the only place where that happens. It should be shown more respect in my opinion.

Gant, you're wrong about the anthem commanding respect. As Soothsayer says, the anthem is never allowed to play to the end by the crowd and it seems to get worse year after year with the cheering starting earlier every year. It's a disgrace and the GAA should make an announcement before the games to request that the anthem be played in full.

Sorry, Soothsayer.........I take your point, but I just can't help myself
"Go on, XXXXXXX, give them f*ckin' stick now"..... Seo libh, cana'dh amhrán na bhFiann.... ![]() My mask of a sophiscated, charming urbane and balanced individual is completely exposed as fraudulent when the championship comes around, quite disturbing really ![]() |
