Question: im in a shop which guarantees its singles,i back a horse at say 4/1,there is then a 15c rule 4 applied to my bet because of a non runner,my horse opens up at 6/1 and wins at 8/1. does the rule 4 of 15c then get taken away from the 8/1 or does the bookmaker pay me fully at 8/1 seeing as they guarantee the price
your bet was struck at 4/1 less 15c = 3.4/1. There is a rule 4 on the EP book.
Your horse wins at 8/1. assuming that the non runner was a non runner prior to final prices being published then your bet should be paid at 8/1. There is no Rule 4 on the SP
However i've lost count of the number of times I've had this row in a betting shop and a lesser fighter than me might have given in...

Nobody is in a position to pull them up over anything that's the root of the problem. I can't understand it as all these bets should be settled centrally thru EPOS now and I've confirmed with PP head office that what I've stated above is correct. See the similar debate on another thread about reserves.
In most instances - in my opinion - the quality of betting shop manager is so poor they don't even understand the logic behind it.
There must be millions lost by punters every year in rule 4 deductions incorrectly attribute, best odds not being applied and returns uncollected when reserves fill one of the places.
I know we will never reach a situation where the betting industry is properly regulated but this stinks of sharp practice to me
