Whats everyones opinion on this years Ascot Gold Cup ? Rite of Passage to do the dubbl or Ballydoyle to reclaim the cup with Fame and Glory.....or something else to come and claim this prestigous race ??  Well having read weekenders Martin Stevens pedigree analysis F+G must stand a huge chance of getting the trip and with his brilliant trainer taking such a classy horse down the staying route.....will be away too classy for last years winner, who was btw beaten in the Cheltenham bumper by Dunguib....while having great respect for DKW. I just think F+G fully wound up on Thursday will add to the great record of the great man at Ballydoyle.....Fame and Glory Banker 4me..........

Fame and Glory didnt look to be crying out for an extra distance over 1m 6f last time, if Spencer still has him waiting in the wings after 2miles I think he will win with his class. Rite Of Passage will come on from the run, Duncan looks good value.

The gelding’s trainer Dermot Weld yesterday revealed "we've been having little training problems with Rite Of Passage and it isn't proving the easiest job keeping him right for the Gold Cup. We will be taking things day by day with him and a decision will be made at the weekend."

thefly 10.....dont you think F+G will come on at all for the run.....I saw Pat Keen in his column last wk wondering where the real Fame and Glory is as he hasn't seen him yet this year.......APoB is just so cute with this kinda horse that the Gold Cup is where he will be at his very best.....

Calculate what price you think for F&G to stay the trip, if it is less than 5/2, you have a bet imo.

Jay I do think he will also! His pedigree certainly suggest he will stay. Lets be real Fame And Glory would have been a collective group1 winner as a 3yo, chasing Sea The Stars home into 2nd in the Epsom Derby and the Irish champion stakes, aswell as this hes an Irish Derby winner and has ran respectable in the last two Arc's. He didn't look like he would stay 2m4 the last day but that means nothing, he only beats what is in front of him. If you look at Yeats' Gold Cup wins, when there all flat to the boards class comes to the top and he kept finding more, I think if Fame And Glory can stay the distance he could win a few Gold Cups.

In my review of Leopardstown a couple of weeks ago it was remiss of me not to mention ROP.
My take on him that day was that the race took a lot out him that day and I felt there was every possibilty that he would bounce on Gold cup day seeing as there was only 17 days between the two races.

Its a horrible renewal i think and is definitely F+G's to lose now that ROP is out

Going the only danger............... APoB said on ATR that he is confident F+G will get 2mile.....so hoping he stays on ..... soft going could threaten F+G and So You Think.....rain in Ascot the other day.....apparently

Ground now soft if we can believe posts on other treads so kinda worried now for Fame an Glory....though its the same for them all, maybe go slower early and that may see the class horse stay well enough to win....at least if JP Spencer rides as normal (ie come from behind), it will give him every chance of staying the trip....just hope spencer doesn't lose the plot like Queally and Mr. Moor yestrday...the former nearly getting beat  and the latter losing some race by a complete rush of blood....making me totally revise my high opinion of Moore and is nowhere as good as he himself believes....come back Lester miles and miles ahed of anyone I've ever seen......
