Not a bad system in Ireland but not in UK.  Horses never get put up much for winning in UK unlike here and the penalty they carry can often be more than the new mark they receive.

Any stats for this? I'd rather be laying them than backing them.

Surely anyone buying the paper is entitled to read well researched analysis instead of sweeping generalisations which are not backed up by any statistical evidence.Not reading it is not the solution.

When i pay for it, i try to read it cover to cover also, to see if you're missing a trick seeing as they're supposed to have employed experts
