Truly magnificent Rf.
A joy to behold.

We could argue about the best ever , Rocketfingers , but Barca are certainly up there with the best ever . Cant figure out why they were 2.12 at one point , or why PP offered money back on certain bets if Barca won in 90 minutes .

Was watching the  Armagh / Down match in tandem , so only got overall impressions of the soccer , but Barca seemed to own the ball for most of the match , and we know Man U are not a bad side .

Nearly all the greats in all sports made winning look easy , Barca certainly did that tonight . One of the few soccer teams I would pay to watch .
Report GANT007 May 29, 2011 10:43 AM BST
What a way to close off the soccer season......super performance by Barcelona.......watched in 150 countries by an estimated 300 million people.

Jesus Gant your pathetic coming on here and having a go at rising some of the LOI lads with that comment, it's 10:47am and your already on here trying to cause trouble.
Report GANT007 May 29, 2011 10:55 AM BST
I'm sure the 4 lads will know what I mean.....I apologise if I offended anyone.

There is a soccer discussion going on at moment on Sky , talking about last night .  Wonder will they mention the salient point that Barca play essentially on the ground , no big guys looking for headed crosses etc .  Thats why Barca look so good , they are always in control of the ball .

The other good thing about Barca winning ( not that Man U winning would have been bad ) is that smaller fellows ( and girls ) all over the world will realise they can belong on a soccer pitch . Bearing in mind the need for size in other types of football --rugby of both varieties , gaelic , Aussie rules -- this must be a big plus for the game world wide .
Report Rocketfingers May 29, 2011 1:42 PM BST
Yes your spot on with that Kelly and Pat Spillane commented on this not too long ago saying that there is no difference between Rugby and gaelic footballers size wise and while they may be stronger he thinks it has slowed the game down to a crawl and the skill has gone out of the game with this Kelly !

It is an interesting point and Spillane is always worth of a listen to imo, i think this is why some players stop playing gaelic football that you now have to be 6ft 2 or 6ft3 and 15 or 16 stone ala the Cork team and much more athletic. I think Soccer you have to be able to think quicker on your feet, be nimbler and more angile. I long for the days when there was more skill and less bulk in gaelic football but those days seem long gone they spend too much time lifting weighs and not enough time playing with the ball according to my hero Spillane SadCry
Report GANT007 May 29, 2011 1:52 PM BST
Still 5 or 6 of the best players are classed as slight men.
Report Rocketfingers May 29, 2011 2:23 PM BST
I remember the twin's down the road from me when i was living in another part of Ireland. 1 lad is 6ft3 and was a sub the other lad 5ft 11 exceptional football over for trials in England played minor etc etc but he never grew. Both boys loved gaelic football with a passion but the guy that was 6ft 3 was given a gym course he built like a hulk and was even bouncing on a door, all of a sudden he is on the county team and even though he would admit he was not even close to the standard of his brother. He was on to the selectors to have another look at the brother, brother played a trial game v the Mayo he scored 1-7 and was told after it was too small and had no future in the game.

It's sad to see this is what happens if you are not 6ft 2 at least and well over 14 and half stone.

surely there aren't that many GAA players who weigh over 14 stone, I think thats a bit too much timber.
Report Rocketfingers May 29, 2011 3:28 PM BST
Bobmer Liston was 17 mate, i heard O'Hara for Sligo is 15 stone, they're huge massive men you might out run them but if they manage to catch you oh oh Laugh
Report kavvie May 29, 2011 4:57 PM BST
most gaa players are very big.id say 10/12 of most teams would be over 14 st.kevin heffernan used to greatly favour playing guys over 6 ft..and thats going back a few years.last nights game with barca was a fab game...its great when you have guys who are able to play with such skill.sadly 99.999999% of players cant!!

Great stuff last night, once again showed how average the English Premiership is. Barcelona are pure entertainment, fantastic, there's no superlatives too good for them. They're now right up there with all the great sides of the past, probably even better. I can now honestly say I've seen a side better than the Rovers four in a row side of the 80s.
Report db1974 May 29, 2011 8:50 PM BST
Very harsh calling the Premiership average. Average compared to what - one team which is arguably the greatest team ever seen on a football pitch. The league has provided a 7 of the last 14 finalists, with 4 different clubs. No other league can boast that sort of record.
Report Giant Strides May 29, 2011 8:52 PM BST
I`d say there`s a part of you that actually believes that MJK. Laugh
Report GANT007 May 29, 2011 8:53 PM BST
The premiership is above average as a league........Barcelona just happen to be an above average team.
Report Rocketfingers May 29, 2011 8:55 PM BST

Report GANT007 May 29, 2011 8:58 PM BST
What?.........
Report waysidewill May 29, 2011 9:03 PM BST
Despite last nights result the premiership still is, easiest, the strongest league in the world. In fact the overall strength of the English leagues in general are miles ahead of the rest of the world, I'd say some of the top league one teams would easily hold their own in most countries premier leagues.
Not getting at the LOI but I honestly believe Sham Rovers would not get out of the second tier of the Blue Square if they were dropped into it in September.

Report squigs May 29, 2011 10:35 PM BST
Based on what, Operating budgets please elaborate as I am genuinely  interested. While not as damning as others, I would have it at mid table league two.
Report Newmanix May 30, 2011 7:53 AM BST
Barcelona and Rovers should not be mentioned on the same forumLaugh
Report MJK May 30, 2011 11:46 AM BST
wayside you keep thinking that about the premiership, it'll help you along the way while you prop up that seat beside the rest of the barstoolers watching 'their team'.
