man o'w - wasn't that the day it was bottomless. Think he was only laying evens to a deuce for certain customers.
huddy - I think that was mentioned here before - think it was mentioned they were putting on for the greyhound man. I remember one day they turned up at the Curragh after not been seen for a while. He saw them and roared out "thank god your back" brought a bit of a laugh from those standing near by.
he always seemed to go longer on AO'B horses but shorter on Bolgers. Anyone notice that?
Read somewhere he was the top wine buyer/importer (the good stuff) for hotels restaurants etc years ago. a bit of an expert.
Would certainly lay a bet don't think the brother would lay a score at 5's though.

I won IR£21 off him one day at the Curragh - he wouldn't pay me the £1, insisting that we toss a coin for it, I lost and ended up down for the day
I never bet with him again after that

A great friend of mine Pa Hogan swore by him and never bet with anyone else.He has since gone to God but ten years ago we all went to Roscommon races, all the favourites were winning and so were we,Hyland was under fierce pressure and couldnt pay us our winnings from the third last race.He took on the second last favourite for pounds shillings and pence,it duly won,so he now ploughed into the Bumper favourite and that too obliged.I sensed trouble none of us had collected off him and Pa had 5 winning bets and was owed around five thousand.A monster crowd gathered around his stall,Hyland was not around but i spotted him borrowing money from other bookies when he came back the crowd was huge.He started to pay the people but quickly ran dry a man from the Tote came out and gave him money, that ran out and the Tote man came back with more money this happened five times,we all got paid but because he knew Pa he left him til last, while we waited a Dundalk bookie passed by and said to us ...He will never get out of this one thats over sixty grand they have given him...it was now dark and about two hours after the last race Pa rejoined us crestfallen he had got nothing just a promise to pay at The Junction. We drove home with Pa looking worried we didnt help by telling him he had borrowed at least sixty thousand from the Tote.We all went to the Junction that Thursday where in fairness Hyland paid him causing Pa to say..I was never worried i knew he would never let me down. Even before that day and ever since i have felt he is always a short head away from going bust.

Neill d...That was not the only time it happened,it occurred in Kilbeggan and Galway as well around that time.Last year at Listowel a friend of mine was left with a winning docket of Dixie Daltons,he still has not been paid, how come The Tote did not come to his rescue.

A sleeper for nine years suddenly activated this year, definitely a listener.Where is the exaggeration you complain of ? Something must have stirred you.
