i went from sallins to 2 miles from punchestown and i think it was only about €12

I think I read on the Punchestown website that the racecourse were to operate a bus service from Sallins to the course.

It's timely once again to issue my annual warning about Bus Eireann and Punchestown races. Now the Punchestown Racecourse website has info on travel to the course but one line states Bus Eireann operate a coach service from Bus Arus.
Let me tell you what Bus Eireann's service is........ Bus Eireann's coach service is two coaches that leave Bus Arus (sic) at 12midday, one and half hours prior to the first race, full stop, that's it. I know because I went to Bus Aras one year expecting to find a fleet of buses going, I was told 'the buses were gone'. Ireland's biggest NH festival and just two buses supplying public transport to the course from a nearby city of about one million people. What's wrong with Punchestown? Galway Races has Bus Eireann has fleets of buses going Eyre Sq, I cannot understand what are Punchestown doing? Avoid Busaras if it's Punchestown you're going to and if you have to use, be there b4 12midday. |

Nice advice Cmon the Town.
I'm not going to Punchestown but on Wednesday I'll be driving down that way towards Newbridge leaving Dublin southside at 13:00 to 13:30 (about three miles from the course). If someone wants a lift e-mail me at kincsem att eircom.net. But you will probably have to find your way home as I plan on heading back around 17:00. |

I was messing around on google there looking for bus services other than the bus eireann ones. Marathon Travel are running a few services from a variety of destinations. Probably dearer than bus eireann but the times and pickup points are more suitable. Probably only be heading saturday but it's much handier getting to leeson street at for 12:40 than busaras at 12. Return bus leaving the track at 8. There are extra buses running at later times on Thursday and Friday too. Theres also buses going from Sallins train station to the track. All I need to do now is pick out a few bankers

Which ever way you're travelling?, I'd recommend you travel very early, as the traffic no matter what end you're coming in from does be chaotic, if you're late you could be sitting in a taxi for quite awhile.

Apparently Bus Eireann are not running any buses to Punchestown this year.

Not economical I think was the reason? A mate rang them last Thursday and that is what he was told.
Quite incredible if they stick to that. |

unreal ...i know lots of english people heading over and staying in dublin ..how the bloody hell are they going to get there ...tourism ireland should be on to them right away..joke of an outfit if this is true imo...

They may be looking at last year's figures and have not got the cop on to realise that the ash cloud prevented loads of travellers from making the trip.
It is ridiculous but it is what he was told when he was working out whether to stock extra Racing Post's in the shops around the area. |

I was at Punchestown 2 years ago and at the door there was a heap of racing posts(for free). As I taking one for myself an English chap said to me "4 posts please" I said €10, he said "ok, have a good day" I did!

If someone parked a line of buses at (lets say) the GPO and advertised sumthing like "Punchestown buses" I'd like to see how long b4 a line of Bus Eireann moguls would arrive saying "we're the only ones licensed to carry passengers to Punchestown....." and then we're told - it's claimed that it's 'uneconomical'.......... |

Anyone there today who got public transport from Naas or Sallins to the track, can they tell us what the return journey cost please.
