My brain is fried trying to pick out a horse, and I am fit to kill Mark Williams atm.

If we could get Workrider back from that wedding we might get some answers.
Report STELLAR MANIPULATOR April 29, 2011 8:55 PM BST
Think Conan Doyle wrote the book , reckon Billy Young must have been longest serving manager and 'Away in a Manger' sounds appropriate for a team nicknamed the Gypsies !
Report wildmanfromborneo April 29, 2011 9:14 PM BST
Good man Stellar Manipulater 2 right.Arthur Conan Doyle wrote the Sherlock Holmes story A Scandal in Bohemia.
Billy Young the longest serving manager.

A Meath G.A.A. man answering correctly questions on Bohemians,Giant Strides and Rocketfingers will be hopping mad but well done.
Report Giant Strides April 29, 2011 11:28 PM BST
You should get out more wmfb!
I would have answered the first two of course.
Somewhat topically, we were formed in the old Gate Lodge Hotel that was at the NCR gates of said Phoenix Park. Barley 2 miles from the old racecourse.
Billy Young eventually went after he made the rest of us go grey too!
Report Giant Strides April 29, 2011 11:29 PM BST
As for the rest???
Report MJK April 30, 2011 12:52 PM BST
A group of Protestant doctors were the founders. Giant surprised you haven't pulled up Wildman for not telling him it's Bohemian FC, no 's' at the end[;)]

Q6.  Which player was never still?
Report observerirl April 30, 2011 1:11 PM BST
Surely there was a connection between the Kerr's, Bertie the racehorse trainer and Kevin his brother and Bohs?
Report GANT007 April 30, 2011 3:02 PM BST
MJK......Who founded Shamrock Rovers over in Ringsend.
Report MJK April 30, 2011 4:17 PM BST
A group of locals in Ringsend decided to set up a club as competition for Shelbourne as they felt that Shels players were all from outside the village and they wanted a team whose players mostly came from the area. A man called Lar Byrne held said meeting in his home in Irishtown. They took the name 'Shamrock' from 'Shamrock Avenue' in Ringsend and added the Rovers to it. To this day though no one is 100% certain whether the club was formed in 1899 or 1901.

Not really a football fan but am amazed ye cant answer two easy football questions,am presuming Workrider has not read this thread.
Where are all you soccer fans are do you need a clue, will give some tomorrow.

Q5. Errr ..  I think this was originally meant to be a Christmas Carol...

           Gypsies, Tramps And Thieves
Report wildmanfromborneo May 3, 2011 10:31 AM BST
Thats a better one than my answer, but it is a Christmas Carol.Think of an old King of Bohemia and you have the third word.As alredy stated not much of a football fan but did see the great Johnny Haynes play in the sixties.
Report wildmanfromborneo May 4, 2011 11:34 PM BST
Wenceslas was an old king of Bohemia so the Christmas Carol is Good King Wenceslas.
Q4.Very disappointed that despite the clues nobody could answer this question maybe it is time. One of Shamrock Rovers greatest stars of the sixties was Johnny Fullam and after winning countless medals with The Hoops he crossed the Liffey and finished his career with Bohemians winning some more titles. So Huddys and Workrider as Rovers supporters have this great player in common with Giant Strides and Rocketfingers as Bohs supporters.

Please dont tell me that nobody here has heard of Johnny Fullam.
Report Rocketfingers May 4, 2011 11:48 PM BST
Ah Wildman you might want to check what club i follow Laugh

My Dad talks about Johnny Fulham says he was class.
Report wildmanfromborneo May 5, 2011 12:07 AM BST
Rocketfingers..I may have wronged you i just presumed because of your antipathy to Shamrock Rovers you had to be on Bohemians side.
One of the clues i gave was Johnny Haynes a gifted footballer of the sixties who spent the whole of his career with Fulham.Despite being one of the best players of his generation he never won any trophies with Fulham yet remained loyal throughout his career.....different times.
Report celticboy May 5, 2011 8:43 AM BST
Rocketfingers, like myself, is a lifelong Sligo Rovers man.

wildman  -  you had me racking my brains for a player that played with Shams, Bohs and Sligo!

Fulham well before my time wmfb.

finally had to look at this thread seeing as how it was brought up to the top again...boy wildman you pose some hard ones.....johnny fulham one of the greatest players rovers ever had ..small but by heck what a player ..always avalible to either recive the ball or put in  masterful tackle .....played in the old left half position...a superb judge of were to be on a football pitch...he was at preston for awhile before joining rovers....tbh..i would never have got him from your clue ...

MJK  -  Yes Jackie Jameson  -  a wizard and one of my favourite LOI players of all time  ...

He worked somewhere in the public Service at one time  -  I know because I played against him  ...  I would have been a slogging centre half at the time ...

I remember thinking:  I will hit this showpiece early - to take him down to earth ...

I launched a tackle - after about two minutes - first chance I got -  out near the sideline  ...

I still do not know to this day what happened  ...  because nothing happened  ... he was just GONE...

I looked up off the ground  -  behind me  ... and he had run 50 yards and stuck the ball in the net  ...
Report Giant Strides May 5, 2011 10:39 PM BST
The great man himself.
I remember a goal he scored against Athlone in Dalymount that if it was scored by Messi now it would be hailed as the work of a genius.
The sad thing is that RTE have no vt of his ability with the ball at his feet. Legend. RIP Sad
Report MJK May 6, 2011 10:39 AM BST
Imop Bohs had a better side in the 80s than any of their championship winning sides since, Rovers 4 in a row side(best LOI side I've ever seen, and yes of course I'm biased) were so good though that the best that Bohs side could do was finish second to them.Jameson was class, terrified Rangers that night in Dalymount. Very sad the way he departed this mortal coil.
