Constantly on this forum we hear about people who cannot get even fifty quid on ... being offered bets at sp etc .. being 'Knocked Back' as it is called.
Well who lays the mega bets then that the likes of JP Mc / Tabor / Magnier are said to have.
Bookies are on record as admitting that they do not want anybody that is clued in ... and surely there is nobody better informed than JP with horses in half the stables in the game.
I am assuming that thes guys would not be interested in having a lousy 5 or 10 grand on, given their net worth.
We hear of Chronicle taking big bets - but isn't that owned by Desmond - who is part of this outfit - so is unlikely to be laying them.
Mike Dillon of Labdroks seems to socialise with them.

I often ask myself the same question, but I know JP might back more than one of his runners in a race. I would presume the obvious course is Betfair sp.

Tabor uses a Limerick based agent,Magnier bets with Chronicle,McManus has curtailed his betting but still does it personally an odd time.David Power and incredibly Ladbrooks in the shape of Daragh Fitzpatrick are laying huge bets on course.

I wonder who layed the mega bet or part of it on Jack Cool last night. Someone wanted 95 grand at 6.4 just before the off. I got matched at that price. It is rare one sees that wedge up if ever.

wildman I know jp is worth an estimated 6/700 mill approx,but he has around 300 horses in training between gb and ireland,and although the stakes available to play are minimal compared to currency trading etc,i wud be staggered if this master market manipulator does not have a team trading on his behalf on a daily basis??? |

I actually meant racecourse betting,but at the risk of getting kicked off here he has a huge problem laying on here because some of the traders watch whats being laid from each account and then trade themselves accordingly,its even worse on the rival site because their liquidity is poor they trade themselves for themselves via the man with the Turkish name.

The other possibility is that many of the reported bets are fiction.
It's cheap publicity, and it's not as if the clowns on TV are going to ask any questions. |

i get the impression those huge bets that chronicle lay are fiction.
its my belief that david power is a far more serious layer but you dont hear him broadcasting it. chronicle probably lays off with him. |

Chronicle do lay those bets but it causes mayhem they charge around the ring in a state of panic and funnel fortunes through their own betting exchange.

I put on money for a number of serious players..mainly is cash in betting offices all over Ireland...it's put on early in the morning and in small amounts and usually on horses that are well fancied. I cover the Munster and Leinster areas...Do I get paid?...No. Do I win from the information...Definitely not.
They do have some serious runs but some monster gambles have come unstuck on many occasions. |

Market manipulation is done by the bookies all the time in that they shorten horse on track to minimise their off course liabilities.One famous time the market was manipulated by someone other than a bookie was The Yellow Sam affair at Bellewstown in 1975 when Barney Curley backed Yellow Sam off course and blocked the only telephone on the course thus preventing the bookies getting word back to the track thus getting an S.P. OF 20/1.
We are now much more sophisticated technology wise but still manipulation goes on,the most frequent is put up small lays on Betfair watch the racecourse bookmakers who are slaves to the exchanges follow suit and then avail of the inflated price for large amounts,this has its dangers in that the lays could be taken by genuine punters but with discipline it works.Ballydoyle used this method in their three big gambles this year,they kept a tight lid on the stable knowledge also put up small lays on **** as well as Betfair this put the bookies off the scent and meant Ballydoyle traded at 14/1 7/1 and 7/2 unheard of prices for them. |

Thanks wildman - Betfair has obviously made price manipulation much easier for bookies and punters alike ... small amounts early in the day can cause big moves.
Given that the likes of JP and OnTheMachine's clients are not winning - it beats me why bookies do not lay all the guys on here who are getting knocked back. |

Is davy hyland still goin? Heard he was in trouble a good while back. Remeber i had 500 on an obrien 2yo at evens on derby day a few years ago and when i went back he couldnt pay me. Had to borrow off the guy next to him. Mastercraftsman actually was the horse, scraped home in a photo!

I opened an account with Chronicle a few years back. I placed two bets on major rugby matches at widely available prices (no arb nonsense) and I was partly knocked back both times. Haven't bothered with them since.
Like everyone else, I've been restricted to pennies with several of the big internet firms. I also worked at the head office of one of the UK giants and witnessed first hand how quickly limits are applied to 'non-recreational' accounts. Maybe there really is a hidden world of bookmaking where well-connected punters have no problem getting fifty-grand bets on fancied horses, but when the everyday experience of most of us is so different, you can hardly blame people for being sceptical. |

Of course people who are successful with an account will be closed.At the end of the day its a business.Most people on here who boast of that are talking through their bum bums.

Bet Chronicle on track will take a good bet.
But i always find their price are shorter re certain stables especially Ballydoyle, their always shortest on the fancy ones of them. I remember the gamble Martin Brassil had on Moville a few years back...that was a mighty touch. Haven't seen one since that really has matched that and also plenty of losers |
