About time RTE got someone else in to commentate for them. Some very poor commentaries leading up to an abysmal one in the National today. Surely a commentator has to use his binoculars as well as the monitor? Fairly obvious again today that Tony just looks at the screen, hence his awful call because the cameraman was focussing on the wrong horse as leader.

Tony was very poor and certainly got lots of calls wrong MJK..but he does I believe have some health issues and did not get the distance seems to get caught for breath often in his commentaries and I have heard him gulp in air in one particular race...if he was wit nicholls he have had a wind op by now..In fairness he has been a brilliant voice over many many years and may be coming to the final fence...as the game goes he owes noone nuttin...............

He is a banger waiting to happen unless he knocks the ned off himself. He is lucky to have lasted this long and it is a credit to his heart. He is living on borrowed time unless he stays off the jelly tots

Jay I didn't know he health wasn't great, good luck to him on that. I always thought the reason he stopped for a few seconds was because he couldn't make one out and wanted to hear who Dessie was calling!

Is he a Ballyboden man? I see him in parnell from time to time.

Good luck to him he's streets ahead of the other chap anyway.

Not a very pleasant thread.Agree with Tony Fenton better than Dessie and generally an excellent commentator.
