Roscommon holders of the Connaght title, Louth runners up in Leinster (Should have been champions), Westmeath and Longford all within an earshot of Dublin and look at the crowd !?  Look at what we've just watched and are watching, no Skill level at all, Blanket defense no football just hand passes no wonder people are not turning up to watch these matches. People prioritise these days even if the tickets are free it will probably cost a family €30 euro to go to this when you take the price of petrol into account it ain't worth it. They the players actually can't kick pass anymore because they are trained to hand pass if the price of tickets were high i would say something, but the fact is that the tickets are free so we can rule that out as the reason people are not going anymore i think the game i fell in love with as a young snapper has changed for the worse. :(

That may be part of it triump and delighted to Louth win something. But i think people not that interested anymore because the game has changed so much the kicking game has gone out of it, finding it hard to call it "Football" any more. Also the physical game is largely gone, sorry i mean the actual hitting is gone, but it has not lead to a higher skill set on display by players. It's sad when you hear one of the best players in the history of the game say "give me 6 months and a team of rugby players and they will be inter county standard". The Aussies only needed 2 weeks of kicking with a round ball to beat us.

And before anybody starts coming on here having a go at me i played intercounty football for my county and i can tell you the reason i give it up was because they did not want footballers they wanted apes, if you were big enough you were good enough and that seems to be more prominent. I believe players are being told not to kick the ball these days just hand pass it and even that they do poorly at times, this is making the sport more boring and is the reason people have stopped going to games imo.

If Croker ain't full tomorrow for a home final for the Dubs Cooney will have to go or a rule that you can't make 2 or 3 hand passes in a row before kicking these positive rule changes may bring people back to the game.

I coach a kids hurling team, and the equivalent football training is devoid of kick passing and consists of physical stuff and handpassing, some shooting.

would make you despair

agree with what you say, Rocketfingers. Nice entertaining footballers are not wanted, it's a disgrace.

Gant sorry not getting into the whole LOI  v GAA lark again mate, LOI has it's problems alright but 36k at a cup final between 2 clubs from areas probably with 150k is good going and something i am sure the GAA would have welcomed today. More in the Sligo showgrounds last night than at all the Sligo league games put together this year.

Gaelic football is in crisis last season's gates way down, unsold all Ireland final tickets, tickets prices too high to watch guys hand pass up and down a pitch. I think you should ignore other sports like Rugby and soccer and see whats wrong with our own. Do you think we should allow only 3 hand passes then the players must kick the ball? It is meant to be football after all Gant

Gant you wish to paint me as some sort of anti GAA person, but the fact of the matters i start approx 75% of all GAA betting threads. I have a fair point about foot skills being taken out of the game, did you see the crowd at the double header finals today? Because fair play to you if you did as none of the rest of us did Laugh

You start them but due to your proven form not many contribute........saw the first game but went dog racing......what was the crowd figure.......maybe they should have played one on friday night......no competition only the soaps.

Gant i regularly rip into the FAI about things i am not happy with. As a person who has played Intercounty football/handball/mix of Rugby and Basketball whatever you wish to call it these days, I think i am in good position to both praise and criticise the GAA. DO you think the GAA is beyond being criticised? Because seeing no one at all in Croker today for 2 finals and the same last year was hard to take. If you wish to call me anti GAA then you should also call me anti Soccer because i have slated the FAI so many times it is untrue.

The game needs to be changed to cut out so much hand passing as people are getting bored with it, there is no skills involved and thats why numbers are falling and people are going to watch other sports. It is getting near the stage where people will start doing the GAA for false adertisment because there is no football involved. BTW my team play on a saturday night we fear no one. [;)]

I have been at league games this year home and away and all i seen were empty seats and today bore out what i was expecting with the size of the crowd. The Dubs would be the only reason they are up the rest of the country they are well down.

Come on gant surely the GAA must wake up and realise that people don't want to watch a game of hand passing all day. I've said my piece i am sorry if you think it is anti GAA but i would have thought you may agree with me as 2 ex players about the hand passing i genuinely believe this is why people are going off the game. Cupandwink and a few others agree on this thread, don't think it is too hard to get your head around it i am being genuine i told you i love the GAA, great times playing ball as a kid i am more soccer alright but that does not make me anti GAA if anything on and off here i am far more anti FAI.
