The continued lack of significant rain is furrowing the brows of clerks of the courses countrywide – particularly at tracks where watering is not a practical proposition.
One of these, Tweseldown, hit rock bottom on Saturday when visitors looking carefully had the sight of just seven horses all afternoon.
Two races were contested by just two runners, another three all resulted in walkovers and for the last, a Maiden, there were no declarations.
Charges at the gate had already been reduced by half and later the sparse crowd were offered free entry to next year’s meeting.

last time we had that kind of weather in england at this time of year was in the 1970s..ptps dont have the option to water so will always be at the mercy of the weather ...

Report: Tweseldown Racing Club - Tweseldown
by Robin Gray Just seven horses were saddled to race at Tweseldown on Sunday, with three of those gaining 'walkovers', leaving two 'matches' to provide the only action for racegoers. This was a bitter blow for the Tweseldoen Racing Club following the meeting on the course in March which was the most successful for years. 'When I saw we had only 34 entries I feared the worst,' said Chairman Steven Astaire. 'Unfortunately the rules do not allow us to cancel the meeting for reasons other than the very extremes of going, and we had no alternative but to go ahead.' In fact the going, although firm, was safe and raceable and some trainers may regret their absence because there was serious prize money to be won, such as £500 to the winner of the Philip Scouller Memorial Mens Open for example. Cape Stormer was the lucky horse here, simply having to walk past the judge to collect the prize, his 30th success for Marcus and Carolyn Gorman. The previous day Cape Stormer had finished 2nd at Penshurst to the season's leading horse Freddies Return. In a match for the Fontwell Park Ladies Open, Celestrial Dragon made all the running in the hands of Rachel King to beat Dumadic. Rachel, 20, a one time flat race apprentice, reverted to amateur status last year and was winning her second Point-to-Point following three successes on the flat. In the Club Members race, 63 year old Tim Underwood rode his own Long Courrier to a 20 length win over Jalpreuil Malta. 'That was just a steering job,' said the rider, 'he jumps well and loves this fast ground so I was always confident.' Members of the public who paid the reduced entrance of £10 were advised over the PA to retain their plastic wristband which will gain them free entry at the next meeting. For all the disappointment, the sparse crowd was good humoured, enjoying the sunny weather and what little action was provided |

Workrider - Points can water, well some can.
We ran our horse at Chaddesley Corbett on Saturday and there was a good turnout - the ex-Irish Creevytennant looked a very nice prospect in winning the Confined whilst Surenaga took the big race of the week and the final Classic of the season the Lady Dudley Cup. Steven Astaire has put a lot into the track at Tweseldown and has talked elsewhere about moving to a Feb/March date for next seasons meetings, hope they get the runners they deserve but the ability to water is vital to a meet being staged at the moment. |

Workrider - there is a P2P track on the inside of the course at Bangor, it's that hard to find it took us 25 minutes to find it and we were only coming from St. Helens! lol
It's nice and compact - if you like a local feel to your tracks then Bangor is for you. |

yeah i was told its hard to find princess d'anjou ....i'm getting the bus from wrexham station ...it comes back to the railway station after racing.i'll then get the train up to holyhead on friday night...
