Pencil in the ladies marathon .  Mary Keatany of Kenya is one of the best runners I have ever seen , male or female . Beautiful running action , and it will be free viewing .

Some sports are much better to watch on tv. This is one of them if your going there especially to see one runner in particular.

I mean you stand in the crowd and get a glimpse of her running past at not great speed. I dont see any great thrill in that.  Unless your as fast as her your not going to be able to follow her around the course like you could a golfer.

Having said all that if i lived in london and was not doing anything else i probably would go along and watch the marathon. But i would never pay to watch it.

Even if the two greatest marathon runners of all time were up against each other you cant see the drama of the race unfold if your a spectator.

You sit with your packed lunch and watch each group of runners pass by from one given point. You think to yourself they are not going very fast and your right. You get a much better sense of the drama and endurance of the athletes watching it on tv where your a spectator for over 26 miles.

Paddletoe , I agree that you will see much more of the race on TV than you will standing roadside in London . But re Olympics , it wont be near us again for about 50 years  , I wont be around then .

Think they may have big screens up somewhere though , which is where people might congregate .
