Was at Leopardstown yesterday here are my observations.
Arrived there early, beautiful sunny day, first thing i noticed was Ryan Moore going out to walk the track this he did thoroughly,he walked it up and downwalked the last bend three times,admirable dedication.
2.15 a two year old six furlong maiden.
These are joke races at Leopardstown as the horses are turning for 4 of the 6 furlongs but the favourite was Raphael Santi,a horse that disgraced itself at the Curragh,he got a poor ride from Moore given too much to do meanwhile up front Requinto a son of Damson ran way too free and was fighting Lordan all the way he still held sway going into the last furlong until collared by Parish Hall.This fellow was to use that wonderful euphemism coltish in the parade ring this caused the big drift in the betting ring,he is by first season sire Teofilio also trained by Jim Bolger and won in workmanlike fashion,horse i would take out of the race would be Requinto.
2.45 a one mile listed race.
Won by the admirable Famous Name,he appreciated the watered ground.
3.15 a one mile handicap.
A nondescript race made notable by Ryan Moore falling for the scourge of Leopardstown had nowhere to go from the turn in.
Ballysax Stakes.
Have reviewed this race elsewhere but to my eyes a poor race featuring a very disappointing performance by the tempermental looking Recital was given too much to do by Ryan Moore,probably acting on instructions,was won by well exposed filly Banimpire.Recital was notably weak in the ring and despite Aiden OBrien saying he was pleased with the run i think he is no good.
4.15. mile and a quarter maiden.
Quest For Peace landed an exchange lead gamble in good style some Derby quotes after the race,again this is no Derby horse.It was nice to see the famous McGrath colours carried into second place by Emotional Dream who should have no problem winning his maiden.When the money is down on a Ballydoyle horse he is always ridden prominently unlike the ones being trained on the racecourse.
Racing finished up with two well backed handicap winners but for me the only good horse on show was Famous Name.
