well done to all who backed the winner. well done to Donn McCain and jockey Jason Maguire, I always back a Meath jockey to win the national every year but unfortunately I hadn't Jason, went for Paul Carberry and Backsatge. Wonderful days racing great spectacle for the sport. Sad to see two horses loose their lives RIP Ornais and Dooneys Gate.

I wonder did the bookie in Kilmessan lay off a few quid..........I believe the whole village was on it.

haha I say they all flocked to Trim for a bet ! The local bookies must be skint now.

One of the finest jockeys i ever saw was from Nobber County Meath,he rode Rag Trade to win the Grand National and Royal Frolic to win the Gold Cup and was clear in the 1977 National when his mount over jumped Bechers second time round and crumpled on landing. Can you name the horse and jockey.

I know the jockey is John Burke. Could not tell you the horse but heard this story !!

Andy Pandy was the horse, there are no flies on thefly10.

Same as thefly10...don't know the horse.
If Backstage won the local bookies would have been hit bigtime. |

as a supporter of the winner - he really jumped from fence to fence from the start - his jumping brought him to the front - had to dig deep to win though - pricewise thought he did not stay the 3'1 last year in cheltenhan - the truth was - as i thought - was that he idled in front and got lonely - i wish i got it rite as many times as tom though - but today was nice to disagree and win
