First evening meeting of the year at Limerick. Seven races on the card with top trainers been represented. Any fancies for tomorrow ? I think West Coast Dream can make it 3-in-a-row, don't think the step back up in trip will be any harm. First race off at 4.45 !

As for the card, there is one standout bet for me and that will be my only bet - dont like the early season flat

Dance Secretary 5.15

Ran a very eyecatching race on debut at Leopardstown over 7f in July - when staying on well to take third beaten just 2l in a race that could nt have worked out much better

Kissable 2l in front in 1st - was 3rd in a G3 nto and was beaten just over 1l into 3rd in the G1 Moylare Stud Stakes
Spin a neck behind in 4th - won by 4 1/2l nto
Inca Princess over 1l behind in 5th - won nto
Sapphire 5l behind in 6th - won nto

Dance Secretary was held up out the back this day and stayed on very eyecatchingly the last2 furlong to get 3rd and it should only be a matter of time b4 she breaks her duck and this looks a good opportunity

-Asheerah was said to be the 2nd coming b4 her debut but has been a beaten fav 3 times in her 3 runs and generally dissaponted
-Vastitas step back upto 7f a plus?? I dont think so
-Sionian well beaten by Sapphire on debut who Dance Secretary has well covered on form

The Weld and Stack newcomers could be anything of course but i think it will take a good newcomer to beat the Oxx horse here - 6/4 or better would do me fine

7.15,Mutiska @ 12/1
Ran 3 good efforts under S Foley over 12 and 14F. Down to 11F with J Murtagh on board running off 63.
Has to be great E/W value at 12/1.

Was in leopardstown the day Dance Secretary ran BJG and remember being told before the race that it needed good ground, going to be very soft there tomorrow, going was good to firm that day in leopardstown. A lay at that price for me, in these conditions

Ground is the worry, been rainin on and off here all day[>o]
Report snap crackle and pop April 4, 2011 10:56 PM BST
Thread carefully with that one BJG. Ground could throw up a lot of funny results there tomorrow. I agree with the fly10, West Coast Dream looks the best bet on the card for me, on an upward curve, good jockey and proven in these conditions.
Report wildmanfromborneo April 5, 2011 11:45 AM BST
West Coast Dream looked a sprinter at the Curragh i dont think he will stay the mile, when he last raced over a mile in Dundalk he patently didnt stay, admittedly he is a year older and there is stamina on his dams side but i still think he is a lay and maybe even a place lay.
Report azzkikr April 5, 2011 1:06 PM BST
On Luddenmore 7.15 Limerick and i think thats well worth a small ew punt at the price.A winner over a mile on the flat (good to firm) last year on a 1lb lower mark i think its fair to say he improved over the winter over hurdles for a combination of things,a step up in trip, cut in the ground and a general improvement on anything he should before.A 2L 2nd to highly regarded Plan A (now rated 132 over jumps) was the highlight of several solid efforts.

This is a very average 0-70 handicap and if Luddenmore can reciprocate that improved jumps form back to the flat,i think the cut will suit as will the stiffish 1m 3f trip and a mark of 62 against these gives him decent claims, not one to have the mortgage but at a decent price worth a small ew nibble or one for an ew multiple.

i also like the look of Obligada in the 4.45,she has at least 10lb in hand on official figures, was a winner 1st time out last season and over C/D and can be backed at 6.8 in a 6 horse race,i think thats great value.
Report Giant Strides April 5, 2011 1:15 PM BST
Dance Secretary being backed like soft ground is not an issue.

That reminds me of Chris Hayes. He is really going to struggle this year if as seems likely he has lost the retainer to her. I know he is sitting out a suspension at the moment.

Well done azzkikr. Certainly flummoxed me that one.
First time out winner is an angle I like too, but the pedigree screams distance. Beat Hollow a 10f animal, and I remember backing the dam for SM Prescott. Also a Lo`R mare who only got the message over 12/14f as a 3 yo! They would make a mockery of you.
It did actually win that race last summer over the slightly longer trip though.

The stewards might be blind, but the handicapper isnt and he will make his mark as meaty as he can after that. Remember though, horses with that profile from that yard dont always work out, see Ted Dolly and A Hit Is A Hit. You will remember that the one that would have been a real bonanza didnt quite work out either, with Whispering Wind getting pinged for non trying over 5f at Navan and then being let loose straight after...

Report Bigwillystyle April 6, 2011 1:21 PM BST
Good man Wildclown.  It took you this long to go and figure out how to look at the replay of the race.  It was pretty obvious who the eyecatcher.  Unlikely to get a decent mark i would think.  Wildclown it all depends on what mark the horse ends up with as to whether it wins or not.  Would presume it will be out quick enough again somewhere.
Wildclown unlike you finishing positions in these sorts of races dont matter to me when looking at form.  You go back and watch the replays and see what horse caught your eye.  You were too busy looking at the winner with your €5 to win €2, sweating like a saddo.
Report wildmanfromborneo April 6, 2011 1:37 PM BST
Obviously when you are looking at a race you tend to follow the horse you either backed or laid, you may have looked on this race with a disinterested eye but i had laid the favourite for a lot more than you think and that is what caught my eye.My reference to six was Sky Pilots age not his finishing position.

Report Bigwillystyle April 6, 2011 2:14 PM BST
Wonky's flaggan of cider i reckon after backing another loser.
Report wildmanfromborneo April 6, 2011 2:47 PM BST
Bigwillystyle surely this massive eyecatcher is capable of winning a maiden and not reliant on a lenient handicap mark, you are backtracking already, you are losing confidence a familiar pattern is developing the big choke taking place again.Look you seem to have a good business why not concentrate on that gambling does not suit you give it up and you will never choke again.
Report Bigwillystyle April 6, 2011 3:21 PM BST
Wildclown I do not know what route the horse is going to take. I would say d horse could win a weak maiden alright. Handicap marks are what matters. Wildclown if I had thechance of winning a maiden or two or three handicaps I know which one I wouldchoose. We know u would go for the maiden, hence thename wildclown. Now go back to laying 2/5 horses to lose 2 euro. Good lad
Report wildmanfromborneo April 6, 2011 4:15 PM BST
I neither own or train this eyecatcher but the normal route would be get your handicap mark then win your maiden and then press on in handicaps but this was to your trained eye so blatent and obvious that clowns like me should see it a maiden should surely be in its grasp. You dont seem to understand betting while Captainofthefleet was returned 2/5 no one laid it at that price,Pivotal Rock was withdrawn a new market was formed in the few minutes before the off,he was 8/11 and 4/6 in the morning and the bulk of the laying done on here was from 1.78 to 1.52.Whilst you were watching your massive eyecatcher did you not notice the favourite struggling,i for one would love another belt at that favourite.
Report Bigwillystyle April 6, 2011 5:52 PM BST
Wildclown the normal route would not be to get it handicapped and then win a maiden.  It would to be get it handicapped and win handicaps.  A winner of a maiden in Ireland will nearly always get a mark in the hight 60's at the very least so that would be 3 handicaps thrown away if you work the system well enough.
Report wildmanfromborneo April 6, 2011 6:10 PM BST
Oh dear we were talking about your massive eyecatcher, surely he is not going to get a mark so low but then maybe your trained eye was the only one to appreciate how much he had in hand.I will be following the fortunes of this horse with interest and again if he does prove you right i will acknowledge your brilliance and apologise.Unfortunately your race reading ability counts for nothing if you dont understand betting plus your tendency to choke under pressure is another drawback.
