i remember myself and yourself discussing this same player last year some time. What happened, couldnt believe he was sent off. he was sent off as recently as 3 weeks ago in a senior match too (maybe sigerson) he is the talk of county westmeath, and very highly thought of in UCD too! i9 was gonna lump on WM last night, but at 4/9, i resisted. tell me what happened? oh and what AFL club is he goin to? and when?

He has signed for a Melbourne team which barely narrows it down, he has not revealed which team though yet. Seen him for UCD and he is going to be top class.

As squigs said he has signed 2 year deal but which team nobody knows yet. If you look at the Leinster U-21 thread you will see my feelings on the game rule4. But to narrow it down Westmeath took control with about 7 mins left when Heslin got sent off. I have heard since that the ref claimed he put fingers in opposing players mouth when on the ground. I find this hard to believe especially after just coming back from suspension. The ref was a disgrace to both teams but especially Westmeath.

Further more there was little or no media coverage of referees performance. I have no doubt if it was Dublin playing and not Westmeath we would have heard alot more of it. Some decisions really were baffling to both sides I might add. Good luck to Longford though it wasnt there fault and should not take away from their victory.

Westmeath underage star John Heslin has agreed a two-year AFL deal with new Melbourne club, Gold Coast Suns.
Heslin played on the Under-21 Westmeath team reached the Leinster final in 2010 and also featured for UCD in this year’s Sigerson Cup. He again lined out for the Westmeath Under-21′s in 2011 and hopes to play on the senior team later this season before embarking on his Australian adventure later in the Autumn. Speaking to The Westmeath Independent, Heslin said: “I’m hoping to get a run in the championship with the seniors this year just to make sure I’m not missing out on anything. It was a great experience to go out there and learn the different aspects to a professional game, I mean I try to be as professional as I can by myself here anyway, watching what I eat and how I train. “I am obviously going to miss my friends and playing with the people I have grown up with, but I have to take the chance while it’s there. These opportunities don’t come along too often, and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do”. |

Nothing sour here Kavvie, I hope Longford go all the way and win their first u-21 championship. The ref was poor for both teams. I know 1 or 2 lads on the u-21 team so waiting to speak to them personally. The indications today though are that indeed Heslin interfered with the Longford midfielder while on the ground. If so he has let the lads down as he was warned he would be singled out by the Longford players.

Good article on the lad in the sindo. Still only 18 years of age. Richmond tigers is where he is headed, best of luck to him, sad for Westmeath to lose such a talent.

I have just finished reading the article rule4 and good luck to the lad. The bit about not reacting was interesting, where was that Wednesday night if reports are true that he did indeed interfere with Longford player on the ground. It cost them the game and maybe the title
