If all the big names line up...it be a fascinating days racing. Largely these trials have become completely irrelvant as Guineas Trials but Sunday their are plenty of Group 1 formlines on show. Its a massive help also that AOB string are more forward than usual

I'd say O'Briens best might be more forward this year for the mile classics as the need to create some 'speed stallion', that is the only reason I can think of for the likes of ROC turning up, either that or they think they have something much better at home.

Tough day at the office...especially when Gimili's rock was nabbed after fighting back.
I really do hate that track for big field races...very difficult to get a clear run even if your on a aeroplane

Seamie would have got a roasting if he had hitted it after what happened.
After watching Ryan Moore over in Dubai yesterday, i think they should move heaven and earth to get him as stable jockey. I wasnt a strong believer but his ride on that dog Master of the Hounds was a great ride. Certainly never seems to be in the wrong place

Didn't think O'Brien gave Apache a great ride in the last, he gave it too much to do imo, rode him to beat the Weld horse and seemed to forget that the winner was in the race and had gone.

A very good crowd, competitive racing, and gambles galore combined to make for an exciting day at the popular Dublin venue. The bookies won the joust with the punters.
Race 1) Mesariya (6/1). This drifter under a well timed run got the Oxx/Murtagh alliance off to a great start with what hopefully will be a very good season for this powerful combination. The well punted jolly Wonder of Wonders (1/1) never got a run even though Seamie had him in the cat bird seat. This race just shows why a Classic should never be run here as a lot of luck is needed in a competitive heat.
Race 2) Dunboyne Express (5/4f) A disappointing renewal of this Guineas trial with just the three runners when Cozcozza was withdrawn at the start. Another drifter, this one won in workmanlike style. Unlikely to be one the major players in the 2000 guineas at the Curragh his next target unless he can up his game on this performance.
Race 3) West Coast Dream (7/1). The morning fav, this one was a drifter on course. Ben Curtis continues to shine and had this one in the van to hold the placed closers readily. Slade (4/1f) was a major gamble from 10/1 plus down. Fran Berry was always struggling to get a good rhytm on this maiden winner who never really threatned to win.
Race 4) Empowering (11/2) A mighty punt was landed on track as this one punted all the into his SP from 20/1 when betting opened on track. Young Joseph rode an excellent waiting race from the front having overcome a wide draw. History Note (3/1f) came from a long way back to be nearest at the finish. The major talking point after this race was that young Joseph went to scale at 9 stone 1 lb. He is down to a 3 lb claim now but that will rule him out of most maidens where the weights are anywhere between 9 2 and 8 11.
Race 5) Celtic Dane (14/1). Another result for the layers here. Sammy Jo Bell was riding her first winner here. For a young girl she gave it a peach of a ride getting up right on the line. She didn't use her stick as that could possibly have unbalanced the horse. Well punted jolly Gimli's Rock(15/8f)tried to make all over this 10 furlongs. He rallied after being overtaken and there is victory with this horse if the handicapper is not too harsh.
Race 6) Haziyna (9/2). This one made a mockery of his handicap mark where he made mincemeat of the opposition to bring up a double for the Oxx/Murtagh alliance. One can't blame the handicapper for this. These early 3yr old handicaps must be a nightmare for the handicapper to frame where most of the horses are just about eligible for a mark. Also fitness of the rivals has to be taken into account. A major punt came unstuck here on the Christy Roche trained Madeira Classic (10/3f). This one was 12/1 plus in the morning. A 3rd beaten fav for Fran Berry this one was always fighting a losing battle.
Race 7) Best Hello (33/1). Yet another result for the layers who went home with their satchels laden. Willy Supple had this one in the van all the way and got first run on the jolly Apache (9/10f). Colm O'Donoghue was a very late substitute for young Joseph on this beautifully bred Gallileo colt!

I don't work for any firm. I just like Irish horse racing and like a bet.

I disagree with one Soapp - it looked to me like the jockey did not give Wonder of Wonders a chance to win the race .. or achieve the best finishing position - to put it mildly ..
Yes, I backed it - I was absolutley disgusted - it looked blatant to me.
I also backed Empowering - could not believe the way he was let dictate form a terrible draw - but surely a group race could not be anything but a true run affair .. could it?

Brilliant analysis Soapp.I have posted before my dislike of Leopardstown as a flat track you illustrate perfectly that point in your report on the first race.I have to disagree with Celticboy about Heffernan on Wonder of Wonders, you could see it happening from the 3 furlong pole he just got boxed in and there was no escape he also accepted his fate for the last furlong and a half, this made it look much worse and bought howls of derision from favourite backers, but what could he do.He found himself in a bad position and quickly realised there was no way out so sensibly did not give the horse a hard race.

Great review Soapp,I would think Dunboyne Express would improve a fair bit on this run taking on board the Trainers views pre-race,they went a good pace and I thought he quickened up well, the two O'Brien hotpots got shockers from their respective jockeys.

workrider,it's early days yet but all the chopping and changing that's gone on with the jockeys so far doesn't look like it's going to be great for the stable, the "goings on" with young Joseph in the last race for a stable of this stature was unbelievable and ended up with C O'D taking over at the last minute and he rode it accordingly.

stability is needed ..they dont seem to have that atm. a case of young joseph through no fault of his own been made to look as if its his inability to do the weights thats the problem....surely aidan must have been aware that his son would struggle to do that kind of weight and should have been more prepared...
