RTE is a Despicable organisation. My brother Col Giddafi is under attack from Al Qaueda, the French, and Brits and RTE news are making out that he is some kind of crazy Dictator,Disgraceful reporting,no balance whatsoever,RTE lost 25 million euro last year,is it any wonder ??

Apart from colm murray , all those sports reporters have no real interest in sport
|
|
By:
They have an interest in their own sport......Colm happens to follow racing but knows sh&g all about most other sports.....he can read a script that is handed to him on the other hand.
Who was the sports reporter that got the horses name mixed up?. |

**** or what? get over yourself, the guy obviously made a simple error probably had the name long walk in his head cause of the "long walk hurdle" or something like that you must have very little to be doing if something like this causes you such concern, remember racing is a minority sport.

If WEST HAM won the f a cup, and a presenter said WEST BROM it would be the same level of incompetence

fook we now have a guy who never made a mistake either reading or writing .....as montablo says it was a simple error ,as the yanks would say ..get over it ffs...or lighten up....fecking world in crisis and this guys worried about someone saying walk instead of run ...get a life ffs....

90% of it's audience wouldn't spot the error, 99.99% couldn't care, get a grip worse things happening in the word.

The point is that it's not a one-off slip of the tongue -it's an ongoing situation where the so-called national broadcaster continually
shows a lack of interest in and promotion of one of the sports in which Ireland excels -from breeding to trainers and jockeys. This sport provides massive employment in the country -direct and indirect -and puts ireland's name up in lights around the world. The same holds true of golf. RTE are a disgrace -period. I've written to them a few times -but if more people made known their annoyance with the quality of the coverage there's a chance it might pick up. Irish people so docile -they put up with any old sh1t. |

vubiant ..took my daughter and my 2 grandchildren to my old stamping ground today the INS ...massive crowds i never heard one of them say anything about that misreading by the 2fm sports reader ...they were all just happy to see the stallions and the mares and foals ...its not really an issue....

By:
workrider it was after the news on fri they gave the winner as LONG WALK
|
|
By:
EXACTLY vubiant!!! i always HAVE to double check news when they give results....
|
|
By:
They dont even bother giving the racing results anymore too busy telling us who is fit again, always adding the rider....if selected.

I know that racing coverage is a long way down the list of importance in RTE, and has been for a long time. They have an awful service with important stories either never talked about on radio or available to read on their website. The people in charge should be shot, and "triumphoragony" is spot on. They would go mad if something in the rugby world was said wrong or forgotten about. They had some decent coverage over the weekend on racing a few years ago, but it's poor at best at the moment.

The script actually read
it was just a long walk by long run in the gold cup . easy to get wrong |

Will be difficult for two eff emm to bounce back from this slating despite workriders strident support.

LOOK ... the point is , they are meant to be professional people, who have got all the qualifications to get these highly sought after jobs, and YET can't get a simple name RIGHT ..what's the point in having all those qualifications in the first place. It's the same on rte as well
|

Im with OP, but this is the same organisation that gives employment to Zig and Zag of a Saturday afternoon, so ....

On RTE Radio One today the sport’s presenter Con, I forget his second name, told us twice about the CIS Cup Final going on in “Hamden Park” which is a pity as I think it went on at Parkhead……That error on 2FM that someone harps on about up above is not a “huge” error, well given that 2FM’s listenership ‘aint strictly the racing fraternity to be fair now.
But there is indeed something to be said about getting the bloomin’ basics right and if you listen as much as I do, you do hear and suss basic errors-even in a station that get 160 per Euro per home in the country and still there’s basic errors being made. It’s a biz (and I know it) a lot of it is getting the basics right and it works for you and you take it from there. But again to be fair to all of them there’s always the pressure of deadlines etc., and anyone can make an error. |

Following some research I can say now that this game apparently was played at Hamden Park.
Setanta Sports TV guide had this game listed down as being played at 'Parkhead'—I don’t know why I choose to believe Setanta instead of RTE—basically it boiled down that someone had to be wrong. I don’t know the Scottish grounds well enough from the TV to know what ones what; I looked at it yesterday and even thought the TV pictures were coming from Parkhead. Celtic are due to play Rangers in the Scottish Cup having drawn already with them at Ibrox, maybe that’s what confused the Setanta TV guide compiler. And anyway I did mention in my post that these people can make mistakes; it’s human to err; in this particular case it was Setanta Sports, not RTE, who made the error. I was incorrect in blaming an RTE presenter when in fact it was Setanta’s mistake. |
