im never really on this forum so it may have been discussed numerous times,(if it hasnt then there's something wrong)but why in gods name is wes hoolahan never picked in the ireland squad, hes been one of the best irish players outside the premier league for a long time now,has been excellent since hes been with norwich, excellent again all season in the championship, yet that idiot trapatoni never picks him in the squad,he never even seems to get a mention,we need players of his calibre in our squad,i could half understand his exclusion if we had good players like him already, but we dont!! so why is he not been picked??unbelieveable rant over
Couldn`t agree more. This has been a bugbear of mine for a few months now. He`s been running the show for Norwich who are now 2nd in the Championship. I really wish Trap would fook off at this stage.

As a Norwich fan (I dont tell too many) I am bemused also. He is having a great spell since he has come back from injury. Last season he was unreal, scoring nearly every game and getting man of the match more often than not. Paul Lambert made it public 6 months ago that he should be picked but Trap only sees whats in front of him. Not the right man for the job IMO. He had a gun to his head to call up McCarthy. Not a chance in hell he will give a LOI player a chance.

Couldnt agree more with the opening statement,i played with this guy back at shelbourne-phenomenal talent. Trap is disgrace for not having in the squad over arguably last couple of years and still persists in average dogged players in midfield. i think a lot of people feel trap has been poor in the job and his time is running out very sharply!!!

LOI has produced some of the most entertaining Irish footballers of the last 10 years, Wes Houlihan, George O'Callaghan, Keith Fahey and Paddy McCourt. Very good players technichally.

Adam Barton looked good for the u21s the other night v Portugal as well by all accounts
De makings of a lot better midfield than the current one imo
Gibson/Green[smiley:crazy][smiley:crazy]/Whelan all too similar - one of the 3 is all that should play - far too defensively minded
Has Adam Hammill been asked to play for Ire anyone know - the makings of a very good player imoMcCarthy/Meyler/Hammill/Houlihan/Duff/McGeady/ColemanAdam Barton looked good for the u21s the other night v Portugal as well by all accountsDe makings of a
Agree Newmanix - how he has ever got the chance to play international football is a complete mystery - have no problem with 1 of the other 2 playing, just dont think they do much (goin forward) when 2 play together

Marco Tardelli has indicated that he would be eager to take over the Ireland job when Trap steps down
Irish national team assistant mananger Marco Tardelli has confirmed that he would like to succeed Giovanni Trapattoni when the 72-year-old Italian eventually departs as manager of the Republic of Ireland soccer squad.
“When and if Giovanni decides to step down, I would be very honoured to be able to stay here,” said the former Juventus midfielder.
Tardelli might have a long wait, however, following Trap’s announcement last month that he would like the FAI to extend his current €1.7m deal beyond the Euro 2012 tournament. Trapattoni made it clear that he would like to stay on and attempt to get Ireland to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Tardelli spoke on Friday of how he feels he and his boss have done since the Italian duo were recruited, saying that he feels they should be judged on more than results.
"I think our work is very good. We find many young players for the future," he said. "We have to evaluate the work that's been done so far, and evaluate on the basis of the project.
"It's true that the results are important, but let's not forget we have gone up 10 points in the world rankings."
That's all right then.
