Fair play to the person here who highlighted this horse  from the Points a few runs back, looks like a real strong traveller with a big future.

I'm Surprised you don't claim that spot for yourself Sat Flight ! you're so good at betting and all Laugh

thanks punchestown , i spotted him at tinahealy p2p ..a guy came on and asked me what horse i took from that particular p2p and i told him ..that a horse called mount belbulben had kicked every fence out of the ground and had still won pulling a cart ...

Backed it! Cool without the fav! Cry
Report punchestown March 13, 2011 6:25 PM GMT
I thought the fav pulled way too hard and had nothing left at the business end so I'd give that another chance, can't wait to see the winner going 2ml 4F+.Hopefully they've done a bit of work on its jumping.
Report JayTrumpOldTomDubbl March 13, 2011 7:30 PM GMT
I think it's gone too far at this stage now you just cannot back pw even doh he is mostly on the best horse in the race.In mho he has lost his confidence and I really dont know what race some of you were watchn but it seems to be different to what spoils showed in their office. This horse was fairly well positioned throughout but for some reason known only to his rider he lost his place on the run to the last bend. From being a close up 2nd he was quickly last !!!Impreesive winner Benbulben soon gone clear wit the fav staying on late to go 2nd.Shocking ride, had no bet in the race at all, doh he may not have beaten a fine winner... IMHO he was'nt given a proper chance to do so by a very very poor rider...
Report Princesse D'Anjou March 14, 2011 10:35 AM GMT
Great spot Workrider - I mentioned it prior to the Down Royal run as a potentially high class horse that was woefully overpriced and Sat joined in too (along with a few others given the SP) lol.

Really do hope that they've done some work on his jumping as he looks a proper proper machine.
Report red and white March 14, 2011 10:57 AM GMT
I'm going to find a quiet room. I studied the bumper form for Cheltenham and this was my ew pick anticipating big odds on the tote. Now I discover it spanked the odds on Mullins favourite yesterday. Talk about a kick in the teeth. Hope my other one divine rhapsody makes up for it.
Report workrider March 14, 2011 1:05 PM GMT
thanks princess d'anjou ...the amazing thing about his jumping that day at tinahely was he really never looked as if he would get rid of the rider ..i can see him making the transition  to regulation fences  quiet easily ....
Report Princesse D'Anjou March 14, 2011 1:51 PM GMT
I've never seen anything like it from the two mins I actually saw of the race - the mistakes he was making would have stopped any decent horse in it's tracks and he just went straight through them.

I just worry if his jumping doesn't improve markedly he'll do himself a mischief at a hurdle or fence by ploughing through it (even if he does stay on his feet).

Certainly one to keep on the right side of - looks like he's going to be put away until next season now though.
Report GANT007 March 14, 2011 1:56 PM GMT
A nice price tag on him.
Report Princesse D'Anjou March 14, 2011 1:59 PM GMT
I hope they don't sell Gant - would hate to see him go to a trainer like Nicholls or Johnson and become just another number or another pointer that Johnson bottom.

O'Callaghan has done a great job with the horse and he could be a serious contender next year for a small stable (that and she looks like she might be a useful trainer with Louisiana Gift running ok last time out also).
Report GANT007 March 14, 2011 2:29 PM GMT
If the right offer comes along he probably will change hands. She has good facilities to get one ready and 60 odd other horses to work with.
Report soapp March 14, 2011 6:01 PM GMT
Not a bob for it on track yesterday.

Always value when backing a small stable if the form is there.

Good spot WR.
Report workrider March 14, 2011 6:29 PM GMT
thanks soapp...good luck at chelt ...
Report soapp March 14, 2011 6:34 PM GMT
Same to WR,

I usually limit myself to a €1 Lucky 15 and a placepot each day there. Maybe the one bet only in the big race if I fancy anything.

Can't see a bet on the card tomorrow. I am going to nap Cue Card in the naps competition.

As Justin O'Hanlon said in the Post today, you would have to be concerned about the health of the Mullins team with so many beaten jollies over the last week. That's why I am going to swerve Quevega. maybe Sparky May could be a good each way bet to nothing.

Insane prices paid for these horses last night.

£250k for Mount Benbulben is madness.

£240k for Italian Master looks very steep as well, but at least he can win his bumper etc.
Report GANT007 April 14, 2011 2:54 PM BST
With horses getting scarce the quality lots will attract more bidders.
£250k is steep but time will tell.........Willie Mullins might have picked up a nice animal @54k lot 87.

Gant what do you think of these crowds who put together syndicates www.supreme-horse-racing.co.uk are they value for a bit of fun? They seem poor value on the face of it but there are no bills to worry about. For some reason i want to buy a share in a horse again and seen their advert in the RP this morning.
Report keen leader April 14, 2011 4:16 PM BST
250 for mt benbulben absolute madness. he jumped badly when 2nd at dromahane than won a modest race at tinahely and has done well in the bumper scene, ought to have won at down royal. however to pay this figure you expect a grade 1 horse, that he is not. gant is right the one knocked down to wpm would give you much better fun for a fraction of the price. italian master could be good, time will tell.
Report soapp April 14, 2011 5:57 PM BST
With prize money so bad in the UK any bought for that market at the top end, will do well to recoup their outlay.
Report Allduckornodinner April 14, 2011 7:01 PM BST
Merry Vic has the makings of a nice horse but it's hard to know what his new connections will do with him with regard to how they will campaign him. To be fair the prices at the fall of the hammer aren't really a reliable reflection of what they are making but there does seem to be a healthy demand for good young prospects particularly from the p2p field. At the lower end of the price range Flying Vic could be a bit of value @ 30k.

Mount Benbulben The very exciting point-to-point winner (at Tinahely - workrider - 17 Jan 11 18:42....the horse that i really have to take from this meeting is mount benbulben....very very keen early...made a hash of most of the  fences...yet won pulling double) and dual bumper winner (at Thurles and Limerick) for Gillian Callaghan, Mount Benbulben was sold for £250,000 this evening at the Brightwells Cheltenham Sale to Boher Bloodstock.

Handy Andy, No Loose Change, Dramatic Duke and now Terry Ryan and Denis Prendergast are responsible for another headline maker as Italian Master fell to the bid of Aiden Murphy (featured in last Saturday's Irish Field) for £240,000.
Like all the others mentioned, J D Moore was in the plate when Italian Master scored from Likeable Rogue at Dromahane on March 5th.

Cork-native Murphy also struck for Rally The Troops. This four-year-old son of Flemensfirth was runner-up twice for Willie and Jamie Codd and he was sold for £120,000.

Another Flemensfirth hailing from a Wexford yard, Firey King, a winner at Kilworth for Colin Bowe, changed hands for £115,000, going to Highflyer Bloodstock.

Aiden Murphy stepped-in again to get John Nallen's Minella For Steak for £230,000. This King's Theatre gelding won at Durrow, by four lengths, from the subsequent bumper runner-up Folsom Blue. Nallen also sold Minella For Party (a winner at Punchestown) for £75,000 to Grant Lewis. Later in the night another Nallen inmate, Minella Forfitness, a son of rookie stallion Westnerer and a winner at Templemore, just the Sunday before last, went to Highflyer Bloodstock for £130,000.

A winner on the same day at Dromahane as the aforementioned Italian Master, Sam Curling's Rock Of Allen was sold to Henrietta Knight for £185,000.

Dannanceys Dancer, victorious in a Kirkistown youngster's contest, making a lot of the running under Mark O'Hare for Warren Ewing earlier this month, is going to Donald McCain's Grand National winning yard after selling for £160,000.
Many people have put Avenging Ace forward as one of the most promising horses to have appeared this season and Donald McCain obviously was of the same view as he gave £120,000 for Nicky Stokes' Templemore winner from the Sunday before last.

Jonjo O'Neill paid out £150,000 for Paul Cashman's Merry King, a winner at Lismore last month from Rally The Troops (mentioned above).

Beneficial Reform, a winner on Monday night at Ffos Las for Dermot Day, was knocked down to Dorrell O'Gorman for £44,000.

Nutin Fancy, winner of a Downpatrick bumper for Gordon Elliott, was another to take the attention of Aiden Murphy who signed for him at £50,000.

Soudain, a winner at Horse And Jockey for John 'Shark' Hanlon, went to Mr P J Martin for £54,000.

Tarlan, first home at Lemonfield in a five-year-old geldings maiden for Denis Leahy, went to Donald McCain for £75,000.

Rye Martini got off the mark at the first time of asking for Kieran Purcell at Lismore and he was bought by Mags O'Toole for £55,000.
Mags O'Toole also secured Shane Donohoe's Loughbrickland winner Prince Ludovic for £80,000.

Castletownsend, from the yard of Roisin Hickey, who of course produced Peddlers Cross (with husband Thomond O'Mara), went to Highflyer Bloodstock for £50,000. He won in Liscarroll at the third time of asking.

Black Zorro, runner-up in a Limerick bumper behind Waaheb for Charlie Swan, was sold to Mr T McDonald for £100,000.

Sean Doyle's Settledoutofcourt, a runner-up at Lingstown in March, went to Mr Andrew McAllister for £65,000.

Last Sunday's Dromahane winner, High Handel, for Sam Curling, went to no less a man than William P Mullins for £54,000. Hope your right, too, Gant and someone has "much better fun for a fraction of the price". Devil
