What boost to the country?
No Monarchy has a place in a democratic society in my view and I am certainly unhappy at a waste of public funds and it is my taxes and your taxes paying for her to visit this country. |

Give over Squigs she is an old woman, i did not see you protesting with the King and Queen of Spain, Denmark and Jordan came. Where were your protests then? Squigs you can't even say the real reason you will be holding up a placard and shouting at an 84 year old woman.

People living in the past:
1. Low income families still buying new cars to rub their neighbours noses in it 2. People who still think property was/will be a good investment 3. Brown Thomas shoppers 4. Pubs/Clubs with a dress code and increasing prices as the night goes on Any more? |

Old Woman how are ya!! We are not talking about the innocent old lady who lives down the road!!
That fitch looks down her nose at us Irish!! Wretched, dumb Irish, ninkimpoos she probably says to herself!! If her and her ancestors had their way, we would be singing "God Save the queen" as our National Anthem!! |

I'm not arsed protesting outside with a placard, I just don't see how the security cost can be justified over something which is not going to benefit anyone.
Squigs you can't even say the real reason you will be holding up a placard and shouting at an 84 year old woman. Yeah I can, Even though I'm not angry enough over this to get a placard. I simply don't believe in a monarchy and I don't think they should have a place in a modern democracy and don't see why the visit of any monarch to this shores should be so welcomed. Anyway I'm sure she will be welcomed at your beloved Rovers. |

We can't deny ourselves every little pleasure in life. I would much rather cut down on TD salaries that denying the chance for people to see foreign royalty

I've a republican viewpoint myself and anti-monarchist (I think the idea in this day and age is ridiculous actually). However if any nation wishes to have a monarch as head of state then they are perfectly entitled to do so; and it's absolutely none of our business. Anyway every country has customs and practices which could be considered archaic but they are usually historically-based and ties a culture/nation to its past - and I suppose has merits in that regard.
This is primarily a visit from the head of state from our nearest neighbour, and I have no issue with it at all. Hope she has good time, and both Britain and Ireland gain some mutual benefit. Also it quite pleasing that she has expressed a lifelong desire to visit Ireland, fair play to her. (I'm far too secure in our identity and independence to have issues with the visit, I don't think if she likes what she sees she'll sanction an invasion ). |

There is no need for some of the smugness and delight with the announcement. A mature reaction would be to remain relatively quiet on the subject given the history. Hopefully will be handled with a bit more dignity than this.

As a nation who relies on tourism so much, I am delighted that shes coming. I rely on tourism and about 70% of my foreign customers are English. I can only see thousands of more English visiting our shores. Also I rather deal with English tourists than others. They will always take an interest in learning about the horrible way their ancestors treated us.
Irelans history is something the Irish should forget, and the English should remember. |
