Listening to Darren Frehill's abysmal performance on Pat Kenny this morning made me think how big the Sports Dept. in RTE must be.
I mean seriously.
There is a different person presenting the Sports news every night on the news.
Anyone want to start a list?

In fairness though, the sports dept is the best of any dept in RTE.
TV Licence payers must be tearing their hair out!

they are all kak aswell,make the simplest basic errors all the time,and use all the sporting cliche going,makes me so angry i cant watch a lot of rte sport 
They all seem to regard racing as a bit of a nuisance.

I'm not in the business of defending RTE usually but for football alone compare RTE's analysis and presenters with Sky(e.g Jamie Redknapp), ITV(Andy Townsend), BBC(Alan Shearer) and ESPN(Chris Waddle) to name a few. I'm sure the wage packets at RTE are very fair in comparison to those above.
Apart from football, GAA(O'Rourke,Duignan), Boxing(Mick Dowling), Athletics(Jerry Kiernan), Swimming(Gary O'Toole) Racing(Ted Walsh) are all covered well with expert analysts.
I forgot to mention TV3 who give us the joy of Tony Cascarino and Mark Lawrenson!

And like Padlock says, it's not as if most of them are any good.
A few weeks ago the TV reviewer in the Sindo poked fun at the fact that RTE had invented an Australian cricketer called 'Ricky Pointing'. And I nearly choked one evening when a caption came up with a comedy spelling of Olazabal.
Even if you're a fan of RTE, they could do the same job with half the staff and about a quarter of the wage costs.

they get great viewing and listener figures, ergo they are doing a great job folks. :)
