im just watching some garbage FAI awards show and this donkey is one of 3 nominees up for player of the year award FFS !!

they must be really hard up for players , coz this is truly scraping the bottom of the barrel

O'Shea is distinctly average at the best of times but he hardlly ever even gets a game for Man.Utd anymore and when he does he comes on a sub the last 10 mins of carling cup ties or else in injury time in the champions league

O'Shea strikes me as somebody who is happy to waste the rest of his career or the periphery of the man.utd squad picking up his 50 grand a week for doing feck all.

if the bloke had any balls, he would have moved on long ago, at least somewhere where he would get a game and keep his dignity....

one of the most overrated players ever to make it in the premiership, his talent is more suited to the lower leagues.

IMO HE COULD BEEN TOP CLASS BUT THEY USED HIM IN OVER 6 POSITIONS AN IN FAIRNESS IWAS AT  LOT HIS EARLY GAMES AN HE NEVER LET THEM DOWN IN MOST THEM AN SCORED LOT CRACKING GOALS . TELL YOU THIS LOOKED AFTR HIMSELF NEVER SEEN ANY CRAP IN PAPERS ABOUT HIM SO TOO PLAY 9 YEARS FOR THE BEST TEAM IN ENGLAND HE MUST TICK LOT BOXES FOR FERGIE IS NO FOOL . GOOD LUCK TOO THE LIKEABLE BIG LAD PS PITY HE WASNT FROM THE NORTH[:p]
Report Newmanix February 6, 2011 9:42 PM GMT
media love him coz he spills the beans on the teams private going ons. fact!
Report bardo February 6, 2011 9:55 PM GMT
vinnie... i beg to differ he has hardly featured as a regular for the first team in the last 2 years that is a FACT ... he is a squad player and nothing more

the truth is  these days when he does get a game it is usually as a token sub...he hasnt been a regular for a good while now, and even through 2002-2009 he was often in and out of the side, only getting a regular run due to injuries to other key players rather than his own form

Vidic and Ferdinand are the 1st choice centre backs, O'Shea isnt even on the radar anymore... these days fergie would sooner play Evra, johnny evans or even the woeful Rafael as 1st choice fullbacks before he would give utility O'Shea a game, and thats when he's desperate

he is a limited donkey.. he never had any real skill or technique, and he is just too clumsy by far.

as i said if the man had any pride he would drop down a division or two and earn his living by playing rather than sitting on his arse week in week out
Report mophead February 6, 2011 10:11 PM GMT
ill never know how o shea got in the man utd squad ever -a standard league 1 player at the best imo - saw him last year when vidic and fer were out i think and he was totally exposed alot of times -you sometimes get players like this who just have a bit of luck -proven by the fact his not in the team when everyone is fully fit
Report vinnie_roe February 6, 2011 10:15 PM GMT
The only season that he's not been a key player in the team is this season. Last season he was first choice at full-back until he picked up an injury in the Ireland v France game in Paris which ruled him out for the season with a serious blood clot problem. He was utd best player when they were beaten by Barcelona in the European cup final. For you to say  he should have moved long ago, where he would get a game and keep his dignity is just ridiculous. For you to say he's one of the most overrated players ever to make it in the premiership, his talent is more suited to the lower leagues is laughable. Ireland could do with a couple more john oshea's in defence.
Report robo February 6, 2011 10:20 PM GMT
I don't know what he gets a week but it's obviously a bundle. He would be off his rocker to leave Utd just for first team football with some crowd of useless knobbs, and every 2nd opponent trying to kick the shiit out of him down in a lower league. He has a contract and he'd be mad not to benefit from it.Why does he want to play ist team football,to get in the Irish team is it?.John O  Shea from GOAL would get a game with them not to mind this guy
Report bardo February 6, 2011 10:53 PM GMT
i think our John has probably scored more O.G's in his life than regular goalsLaugh

I cant decide who is worse him or Paul calamity McShane.

its been a long day since ireland has produced a truly world class player.

lets be honest lads... most of our lads are just championship quality.

Darron Gibson is another Manu player who looks like he belongs in the League Of Ireland...

Trappatoni will have to give the young lads a chance.......at the moment he is just playing safe with old pros to justify his huge salary. But he has to answer to nobody and seems to have a free reign.
Report Newmanix February 6, 2011 11:16 PM GMT
the fai dont give a fucck, they can use a foreigner as a scapegoat if the people revolt, long time since there was a fair chance for the young lads unless they trained with man utd.
Report bardo February 6, 2011 11:16 PM GMT
thank fook that Kilbane is finally being out to pasture... 9 times out of ten he would get the ball start to run 5 metres and usually fall over

this new lad from Villa Ciaran Clarke looks real quality tho... with him and Seamus Coleman  we have the makings of a decent side...hopefully James McCarthy will get picked by Trappatoni..

to be honest i think our euro 2012 qualification is gonna end like all the others... defeat in the playoffs yet again...
Report neill d February 6, 2011 11:49 PM GMT
Most countries in Europe would be very happy to have Coleman, Clarke or McCarthy coming through.
Report Tony Fenton February 7, 2011 12:59 PM GMT
From memory I recall John o'Shea getting badly injured in Paris during the 2nd leg play off game. Missed about 5 months due to injury as result. I think he saved a certain goal with a last ditch challenge.

As recently as 2008-09 he played 42 times for United being a regular in the team that qualified for the Champions League final.

He is a steady player these days.

Doubt the original poster is au fait with association football.
Report bardo February 7, 2011 1:56 PM GMT
tony fenton ... if he was any way decent then ask yourself why he didnt even get in the squad for the 2008 champions league final in moscow..he didnt even make the subs bench and he was fit at the time..

as i said these days the only reason he gets a run is coz other players are injured.

the guy is a liability..  he isnt a steady player at all., steadily useless maybe... i think you are wearing green tinted glasses my friend... you are entitled to your opinion as i am mine but why is it that the vast majority of people think O'Shea is rubbish..

if vidic and ferdinand are fit they take the central defence positions... and if Evra ,Evans, and rafael are fit then O'shea simply doesnt get a look in
Report thegalwayman February 7, 2011 2:04 PM GMT
He was an unused sub in the 2008 final (Wes Brown was good at the time) and played the full game in 2009. He has matured into a quality player over the last few years and he is consistently excellent for Ireland. This thread is nonsense.
Report neill d February 7, 2011 2:09 PM GMT
Evans is worse, no physical presence and no pace, the type of centreback strikers love to play against. West Ham beat United in the League Cup when he was playing and Wolves beat them yesterday when he came on for Ferdinand. I'd say this was coincidence but the lad has none of the physical attributes needed to make a top centre half, he passes the ball neatly from the back but as a defender he just hasn't got it. O'Shea is certainly premier league quality, but while having all the physical attributes, he lacks the natural aggression of a top class centre half and one can get away with that, but only if one is exceptionally quick and athletically gifted a la Rio Ferdinand in his pomp. The most best, paciest and imposing defender I have seen in the EPL is Sol Campbell, Ferguson wanted him. Him and Rio are the best I've seen in England. O'Shea doesn't measure up to that, but there are worse defenders in the EPL with England Caps, Matthew Upson for one.

I think he is ok but has not fulfilled his potential, if one looks at the careers people like John Terry and Jamie Carragher have had as innately less talented footballers and athletes, I would consider John O'Shea to be something of an underachiever to be honest. I only say this because I remember his debut for United when he was thrown in against Chelsea, he kept no less than Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank in his pocket the whole game, to be honest I think it was his best game he played in his whole career. On what he showed early doors he could have done more with his talent, hes kind of the centre backs equivalent of Dunguib, and I aint giving up on him yet. Maybe if O'Shea played elsewhere and got the chance to take on more responsibility he might/may have/yet developed/develope if ya get my gist but time is running out. But what a living he has made anyway

No Irish Player apart from Given would have had a chance of making that squad.
A good honest pro who has made the most of his career playing for a top club. To say he couldn't get into a backline with Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra and a fit Wes Brown was no shame.
