Leopardstown's high-profile Hennessy Gold Cup meeting on Sunday is under threat due to persistent heavy rain with an inspection called for 7.30am.
Saturday's fixture at Naas was called off due to a waterlogged track and while Leopardstown remained raceable by mid-afternoon, racecourse manager Tom Burke is worried by the prospect of further rain.
Leopardstown will call an inspection He said: 'We were still raceable on Saturday afternoon but we have been told to expect more rain.
'Exactly how much is hard to predict. There's a front parked over this part of the country. 'We could get between another 10 and 12 millimetres, but we can't take much more. The problems mounted up when 14 millimetres of rain fell through Friday night into Saturday morning
Of course they need to inspect ,the weather forecast is poor and they cannot take much more rain. There's every chance it won't be on and you don't want th to call an inspection .They would have used the word precautionary if they weren't more than worried

Robo....My point is a general one,i intend going to Leopardstown tomorrow but already two of our crew have cried off because of the doubt and thats what this does puts people off. There was no inspection at Naas today called off early in the morning that did not seem to cause any problem.

It is irresponsible not to.Given the state of the track yesterday and the amount of rain falling and forecast the meeting was obviously in big danger. It is only a common courtesy to people to warn them as to a possibility the meeting could be off. They have a duty to the general public even if it did put off some of your fair weather friends.

Leopardstown are looking to run the meeting next weekend, its more than likely they will take the sunday off Navan not surprising when you consider how easily Navan rolled over when Gowran nicked their saturday for the Thyestes meeting.

Now sammy,I wasn't getting on to wildman at all this morning,I was in fact doing him a favour letting him know early what was going on as he had intimated he was going. As I said last night, the wildman is a very reasonable character ,a nice kind of guy.On the other hand you Samuel are a pure idiot who reinvents himself on here every time a credit card application happens to slip through the net,and that must be getting much harder thesedays. On the same level intellectually as Wonky, and that's basement material

There is a rumour that if the meeting is scheduled next Sunday, that it will start earlier in the morning, to avoid a clash with the rugby. This would mean that racing joins the IGB (who rescheduled the Greyhound Derby final) and the National League hurling final (I think) among the sports that seem to have to stand in line for the increasingly dominant egg chasing.

bizarre decision to move red mills day to a wednesday, which effectively means both of gowran's big 2 meetings of the year will have poor attendances. Leopardstown would have been better off racing next sunday

wrong decision to race on saturday i believe... tote trophy meeting at newbury, football, 2 rugby matches etc......crowd will not be huge. i would have thought wed thur or fri to cause minimum disruption. we all know weekends are better for crowds, but in this instance it should not be about making a few euro. should be about getting the meeting on as quickly as possible. to me that would mean wednesday.

How does this work?It appears that PP are retaining a portion of their ante post market-that which existed up to the final forfeit stage(I assume)- but the ante post market that existed here has been cancelled totally.Anyone know rhe relevant rule and why the inconsistency?

They are saying on my Zaidpour + Joncol double that the Zaidpour part is VOID??? Why's that?? Because the cluless fools made a rick with his price so time to get out [>o]

Satellite, they are in direct contravention of their rules. No way would I accept this.
In line with principals laid down by Tattersalls Rules of Racing, ante-post bets will be void under the following circumstances, otherwise bets stand:
a. If the race is abandoned or declared void.
b. If the venue of the race is altered or postponed to a later date at a different track.
c. If the race is postponed to a later date at the same track with entries totally reopened bets placed after the initial entries are void, but bets placed prior to the initial entry stage will stand. All bets will stand if a race is postponed to later date at the same track with the same entries, whether the bet was placed before or after the initial entries stage.
This is sharp practice by them, and they are only enforcing it because they have laid Mikael and Zaidpour at much bigger odds.

THERE was a mixed reaction from bookies to the news that Pride Of Dulcote could skip the Irish Hennessy in favour of the Ascot Betfair Chase on February 19 with several firms choosing to refund bets on the Paul Nicholls-trained runner as an act of goodwill.
William Hill said they will refund all bets on Pride Of Dulcote.
Sky Bet were also willing to refund, spokesman Matt Boyle said: "We will wait until Tuesday to see if he remains among the entries, but we plan, as an act of goodwill, to refund all bets on Pride Of Dulcote should he be removed from the race."
Paddy Power spokesman Tony Coleman announced that all bets placed on the Deloitte Novice Hurdle and on the Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase are void, while bets placed on the Hennessy after the five-day stage are also void. Previous bets placed on the Hennessy stand.
Ladbrokes have decided to void ante-post bets at the final declaration stage. Hayley O'Connor of Ladbrokes said: "All bets placed after 10am on February 4 will bevoid, but all bets in the ante-post market will stand."
Those sentiments was echoed by Coral odds-compiler James Knight who said: "All ante post bets struck prior to the final decs stage [February 4] will stand."

I don't get how they can void bets put on before the five day stage on the Deloitte and Dr PJ Moriarty. Is it because they layed 5/1 Mikael and 15/8 Zaidpour to good money?? Seems a bit fooked up to me and before anybody says im pocket talking i didn't get any of that 5/1 Mikael.

oh right still they layed an odds on shot @ 5/2. Puzzles me, i had murder with them a while ago about a dog i backed. Backed Simple Class @ 3/1 dog was clearly named and they had prices up and he was a NR, they tried to tell me my bet went onto the reserve @ 3/1 and the name was only a guide, after argueing with them all day long eastmead on the greyhound forum found the rule saying the bet should be void, the **** finally paid but with no grace.

By Brian Fleming LEOPARDSTOWN was reported to be raceable on Monday afternoon after a more favourable than expected forecast since its Hennessy Gold Cup meeting was cancelled following a 7.30am inspection on Sunday morning.
"We're in very good shape today and the track is back raceable again," said course general manager Tom Burke on Monday evening.
"The forecast 25 millimetres of rain we were told to expect between Sunday morning and today ended up at only three millimetres and there has been some very good drying consequently with only one shower here today."
The star-studded meeting has been moved to Saturday and along with the 3m showpiece event, the other three Grade 1's - Deloitte Novice Hurdle, Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase and the Spring Juvenile Hurdle - revert to original entries with newforfeits today [Tuesday].
Hopes of the rescheduled meeting getting under way without a hitch this weekend are looking promising, according to the Burke, but given what happened last weekend he is taking nothing for granted.
"At the moment we are looking good. There are two periods of rain expected before Saturday, on Tuesday into Wednesday and Thursday night into Friday, so we'll have to monitor on a daily basis as this time last week we anticipated noproblems and it all went belly up."
The official going at the course is described as heavy.
