I'd give Barker a sneaky e/w shout at 16's. A Grade 1 winner and despite his age, could be still slightly unexposed, especially with the fact that he's bred to stay 3m. Looks like being around only 8 runners too

It would surely be the first time an Irish Hennessy was won by a horse that won at Tramore Lto

This could concern just the front two in the betting for me as to be honest the rest don't look good enough, maybe Money Trix if it is like the somme

joncol and kempes both interest me ...
|
|
By:
I'd be very keen on Joncol at this stage.
|
|
By:
Not sure about Kempes getting the trip in winter ground, a fully wound up Listener might go close, maybe if hes a stupid price I might be interested.
|
|
By:
i'm hoping the ground will be a little better for kempes neill d .... the listener has had its day imo ..plus not sure about its trainers recent form either ...cooldine if back to his best would also have a chance .... but joncol and kempes the ones for me ...

"Official ratings have been a fabulous guide here. 10 of the last 12 winners here were rated at least 160 with one of the exceptions, Beef Or Salmon in 2003, yet to have been given a handicap mark; he had however won the Lexus on his most recent start achieving a Racing Post Rating of 163+. • The Lexus has been the key trial. 7 of the last 8 winners ran in the December 28th race (or 29th in 2009!) over the same course-and-distance finishing:F321F13. All of the last 12 winners were previous Grade 1 winners and all bar Beef Or Salmon in 2003 had won at least two Grade 1s. In a similar vein, every winner since 1998 had won a Grade 1 chase. • Proven stamina is a must; only 2002 winner Alexander Banquet had yet to win over at least three miles in the past 12 years." Your fans await this years preview.... ![]() |

Ya probably is WR, ****in Cooldine, now there is an impondeerable. If he doesn't perform this time it might be time to write him off as a grade one chaser. Sick of waiting for him now really.

Thinking now of having a good each way bet on Joncol at 3's Nolan seemed quite confident in the interview I saw last night. Hes working with Alpha Ridge apparently and that ran okish in the Thyestes. Nolan's horses are probably back now form wise, he looks solid.
|
|
By:
if theres a bit of cut in it hard to see him been out of first 3 imo... with another year under his belt he may well have grown fully into his massive frame ...

10-12 pounds possibly according to PN, if thats the case he'll win. Looking through the race there is quite a number of horses who could have been top class but for injury, and now look like dead wood at this level.
I've said this before but it is no wonder there is a dearth of top class chasers in Ireland atm, we have had so many injuries. In this race alone I can see Barker,Glencove Marina and Trafford Lad who could have done much more. Off the top of my head, look at the potentially brilliant chasers we have had hindered by injury. Fiveforthree, Venalmar and Aran Concerto, Captain Cee Bee even. Then feckin Arvika gets injured this season, were circunstances favourable we could be looking at a fair few more GC contenders, in these austere times how long will it be before we get such a talented collection of horses again?, or an Irish Gold Cup winner. |

I'd have to go with Joncol who ran a good race in the Lexus considering the interupted preparation he had going into the race and the woeful form of Nolan's horses leading up to Christmas. With everything likely to be in his favour i think he rates at good bet at current odds.
Pride Of Dulcotte always looked likely to make a nice chaser and i don't really know what to make of his Newbury win over Punchestowns. Obviously we could not see anything at Newbury that day and Punchestowns has been bitterly disappointing since going chasing anyway. People point to his closing 2nd in the Albert Bartlett to Weapons Amnesty but although it was a good run im in no doubt that Weapons Amnesty was just idling and won with a lot more in hand than the official winning distance. I can't have Cooldine. He won a woeful RSA Chase that fell apart in my opinion and has not shown anything good enough since. Personally think he is massively overrates which could come back to haunt me. Money Trix will probably place again once the ground is testing but i don't see him getting his head in front. Kempes could go well at a price but i think he would want better ground. |

Weapons Amnesty, a glaring ommission from my list

Yeah poor enough Hennessy compared to recent years. Have always been a fan of Barker so thought he might have been value in what looks a poor renewal, as Willie said he was defo running in it.
Think Joncol looks the one to beat now! |

Presume LADDIES must be losing business (no prices on Odds check her).
Oh and the weather is....... is for changeable and often unsettled and windy weather with RAIN on the way ! "It will be changeable and often unsettled and windy over Friday and the weekend with some heavy rain at times. Much of it over the west and north, but some heavier falls are possible elsewhere later in the weekend. But there will be some dry, bright spells now and again too, with periods of slacker winds". |

They are on easyodds.com.
Pride Of Dulcote is well fancied by Nicholls for the Gold Cup. He told Hendo after Punchestowns was beat that he ran into a real good one. he has the form and no setbacks. Whatever happened Alex Ferguson's What a Friend. Looked a good prospect for Leop races when he won the Lexus last season. |

Nicholls quoted in the RP today as saying that What A Friend runs in the AON at Newbury.
