Wasnt it -4 temps that caused latest fixture to be called off?? See met.ie forecast below...

Tonight

Cold and mainly dry tonight but still a few showers at times on parts of the south and east coasts. Cloud cover will vary and there will be a severe frost where skies are clear, most likely in parts of the midlands, north and northwest with some fog patches possible also. Lowest temperatures will range from +2 near east and south coasts to -4 degrees, where skies are clearest.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow Friday will be very cold, though bright with some sunny spells. Frost will clear from most places through the morning and temperatures will struggle to range 2 to 4 or possibly 5 degrees during the afternoon. Winds will be very light.

No danger at all imo, cold here but nothing like the temps of last week.

The difference last week was that there was a build up of cold frosty nights from Monday night onwards. One cold night tonight should be ok as long as there is no fog in morning

GOWRAN, free of frost since the bout that caused the abandonment of the Connolly's Red Mill Thyestes Chase card last Saturday, has been part covered in a bid to ensure the meeting goes ahead on Friday.

The track is trialling covers imported from the United States that are made to protect horticulture and has deployed them on its highest and most vulnerable areas, covering almost an acre of the course. All fences, take off and landing sides are also protected.

Racecourse manager Margaret Fogarty said on Thursday: "The covers are on top of good ground because we have had no frost this week and are only down as a precaution.

"We are soft, soft to heavy in places and I'm quite hopeful there will be no further problems."

A minor frost is expected on Thursday night, with temperatures dropping to -2C
