This is just a hunch but maybe because the owner pays the bills and is happy with the service provided by the trainer, when you great gentlemen have enough money to own a horse you too can decide who trains him and people can say on an internet forum he should be trained with someone else.

To be fair he did take on a box walker with bad confirmation and give him a chance, If the owners had gone up to a big trainer, they might have said thanks but no thanks without even seeing him gallop.

I just feel that if I was lucky enough to have a horse of this class I would be more likely to put it with a proven stable. Colm Murphy, Dessie Hughes and Jessica Harrington have proved with horses like Hardy Eustace, Macs Joy, Brave Inca, Fethard Lady etc that they can bring the class out and proceed to the heights of racing. This is unlikely to happen Dunguib in his current circumstances. Its just my opinion.

And what if the owners of Brave Inca hadn't decided to put the horse with Murphy or if Moscow Flyer hadn't been given to Jessica Harrington? They weren't exactly racking up the Grade 1s before they got those horses.

You have to give new trainers a chance

Agree completely with bert & ernie. In fact would go further & suggest that every horse above a certain rating should be trained by either willie mullins or noel meade. Any horse deemed useless or, like dunguib, unwanted at the sales and considered impossible to train, may be sent to the likes of philip fenton until such a time as they begin to show potential at which point they will be immediately transferred to mullins or meade who, without fail, will proceed to make champions out of every single one of them. It would be a far more interesting game.

Champion hope Dunguib may get Coral Cup entry

BY RACING POST STAFF 12:15PM 26 JAN 2011

STAN JAMES Champion Hurdle hope Dunguib may be entered in the Coral Cup, trainer Philip Fenton revealed on Wednesday.

Dunguib is as short as 14-1 for the Champion Hurdle with Paddy Power despite having not raced since April, after missing his intended seasonal reappearance in last Sunday's BHP Insurances Irish Champion Hurdle through a slight illness.

Connections intend to start him in the Red Mills Trial Hurdle at Gowran Park on February 12, but Fenton told At The Races on Wednesday that he might not even be ready for that contest.

"He will do a bit of work on Saturday, but we're beginning to panic a little bit that he won't be ready for the Red Mills and we won't be able to run him before Cheltenham," he said.

Added to that worry, Fenton also said that his charge, who won the 2008 Champion Bumper impressively and finished third in last year's Supreme Novices' Hurdle, may not even run in the Champion Hurdle.

He said: "The form of his runs last year is still fairly solid. Whether it's Champion Hurdle form is another question but all along we've had great belief in this horse.

"Two and a half miles in the Red Mills will be the furthest he has gone and we could go for the Coral Cup [over 2m5f] after.

"He would have to run well in the Red Mills before we decide what the next course of action is."

What a silly thread . have so-called ''top''trainers never had a horse who looked  a world beater on the flat but disappointed over jumps
-or a two year old who flopped at three etc .
No great mystery to training or riding horses . What mostly separates those at the top from those in the middle are factors like contacts and ,most crucially , luck ...

Vubiant, Anthony Stokes (celtic) Dad is. He of The Players Lounge in Fairview had to take down his poster re the Queen if he didn't want to lose his late night licence.

Many cheltenham bumber winners don't make hurdlers. Just ask Willie!!

theres not many exceptional bumper horses that turn out to be the real deal hurdling and chasing. i think the trainer is unlucky the horse got injured and that hes not good enough for the top 2 mile hurdles, end of. imagine this scenario. im a trainer, i have two horses call mikael dhaguenet and quel esprit. they have both gone from potentially gold cup horses to being very poor. people would ask why i campaigned them in grade ones first time out, and in grade ones after a fall, taking into account theyre novices and have fallen before. because these are the only horses i have, people will assume i cant train. philip fenton has only one good horse and because it isnt living up to hype people assume hes less capable than a better known trainer. ask yourself has the handling of quel esprit and mikael dhaguenet or dunguib been worse? i cant see much fenton has done wrong. i think willie mullins might have done things differently with his two if he had them all over again, but because he has lots of good horses and is more proven than fenton, his handling hasnt been questioned

Fenton has had more than one chance, he train Vic Venturi before Dessie got him, since then he's won a Bobbyjo chase, the becher and come second in the Gold cup yesterday.

He also had other graded winners Shirley Caspar, Caim Hill and Sher Beau.

Last installment pulled up yesterday too.....wonder who'll be training him next season

vic venturi won two grade 3s and a grade 2 for fenton, along with others. yesterday he came second by default, he was left there. had every other horse run to their best, including vic venturi, hed have been close to last if not last.
